what do you expect from tonight's debate?

I'm sure we've all heard speculation about tonight's debate and likely have our own opinions. The truth is, no one really knows what we'll be saying once it's all over.

But at this very moment, what are your thoughts? Do you predict a clear winner, or will it be a draw?

What do I expect to learn? What will be on SNL this weekend.

I expect George Stephanapolous(sp?) to produce the graphic of Biden's narrow victory within a minute of the ending of the debate. It will be the same pre-prepared graphic that he used for Obama but the names will be changed.

To see Biden slaughter, field dress and serve up Palin as a sweet dish to her blind followers, accompanied by the banging of nails into the coffin of the republican's last desperate hopes...

May she enjoy many hours of unknown magazine reading about distant court cases, learning more parrot scripts, improving her already demonstrably impressive skill to speak for minutes while not saying anything and, finally, waiving hello to her frequent visitors sent by Putin from over the way (that she doesn't seem to know the name of).

Tina will be pleased to see the back of her.

"I would have hoped that she would have disclosed these facts to the debate commission because I doubt if she would have been selected then there would be no air of impropriety. As it is, I think this is tainted before it is even held." - Mrs Pig

She did.

The book was announced in late July of this year. Both campaigns agreed to the choice of moderators in August.

This old non-news item has been dredged up this week to deliberately sour the debate in Palin's favor.

I expect Gwen Ifill to disclose her book about "The Age of Obama", and if she doesn't I expect Sarah Palin to bring it up again and again. Of course, she'll be called a racist but who cares about that? That charge is played out. She will be called "mean-spirited" because Ifill broke her ankle if she brings up the book. So we'll have a pro-Obama moderator (not shocking) on pain killers, plus Joe Biden. FUN!

"I expect what many conservatives expect - a VERY lopsided, liberal expose'. How can you expect anything else with a black, woman moderator with an obvious agenda?"

Whining already TOL?

I'm looking for entertainment. Should be funny.

Why did the McCain camp agree to Ifill, then? Before they claimed she was in the tank for Obama?

Her book also includes Colin Powell. Does that make her biased towards towards conservatives? The part about Obama isn't even written yet!

JohnnyM - "The book was announced in late July of this year. Both campaigns agreed to the choice of moderators in August."

Thanks. Well said. A non-issue indeed.

they are just making excuses before Palin even falls on her face - it should be fun to watch!! keep'em coming

Johnny and So Dumb- She did NOT disclose to the commission, try again.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081002/D93I484G3.html The host of PBS'"Washington Week" and senior correspondent on "The NewsHour" said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press.

If the commission has any sense they will replace her - NOW before the debate.

"To see Biden slaughter, field dress and serve up Palin as a sweet dish to her blind followers, accompanied by the banging of nails into the coffin of the republican's last desperate hopes..."

Biden?

Seriously?

Biden?

You are talking about Joe Biden right?

Hopefully, his helicopter won't get forced down near the coal mine he worked in four 12 hours and then played football for 4 hours as he pulled himself up by the old moss covered three handled family credenza - oh wait that was Neil Kinnock - my bad...

Keep comparing her to Quayle - he laughed all the way to the whitehouse!

I hope Palin will wear her hair down and wear those red pumps again.

you know what makes me laugh - jokes

for that reason the mccain/palin ticket makes me laugh

She will be beautiful tonight. I would rather look at her for the next four years than Biden.

Because they made it so there will not be much back and forth I expect to hear even more stump speech type answers and less real answers, probably from both candidates. I also expect, unless Biden is extremely carefull, that he will be called sexist if he challenges her at all.

Funny how the moderator issue comes up 48 hours before the debate. The book was announced in july, she was chosen as moderator in august....do you honestly expect me to believe that this shocking revelation was discovered just days ago..I think not. Atleast now there another bogus excuse for failure.

By the way, I think she can easily be un-biased since she is african american (like obama) and a female (like palin). Seems like chose wisely, lol :P

well chevelle unfortunately you would have to hear that voice as well - don't forget the first 'dude' I just threw up in my mouth...

I expect it will initially lean toward Biden, until the swimsuit portion of the competition...

When I look at Biden, one word comes to my mind...constipation!

I'm expecting her to sport a nice cleavage aspect...

you are giving biden the gown competition??

i think she will take the gown and swimsuit portion - biden has her in speaking and talent

Maybe Biden will poke her in the chest and tell her to work on her pecs...

Maybe Palin will declare war on Russia...

who knows but I like both of them because of their wackiness...I wish they were at the top of their tickets...

I hope so...

now you are talking jibberish John - that would be scary!!

"Maybe Biden will poke her in the chest and tell her to work on her pecs..."

and Palin will poke him in the arms and tell him his arms are puny.

"Stand up Chuck!!!! Let 'em know how you watched FDR give his address to the nation on TV!!! Tell 'em how I was forced down over Afghanistan!!! Stand up for Chuck!!!"

"Johnny and So Dumb- She did NOT disclose to the commission, try again." - Mrs Pig

Re-read what I said.

I wish they would arm wrestle. Sarah would take him down in less than 5 seconds

Anyone that makes women look bad ought to be vice president

I wish Chuck Norris would run for president!

Tina Fey is hotter

i agree with that bullet - she's got something about her

For this debate, I predict...same old, same old...

I hope I'm wrong though.

Palin will do much better than many expect. In this format, if she doesn't want to answer a question, she can spend her alloted time by giving a standard "stump speech" response, knowing that the moderator won't be able to continue to press her to elaborate on the real question.

There are still a lot of people (roughly half) who WANT her to do well, and for them, this will be enough. So I expect a lot of non-answers.

I also expect this may be the last time we will hear much from Gov. Palin during the campaign. I expect her role in the future to be limited to introducing McCain at rallies. With the prospect of seeing her, at least a respectable crowd will show up, giving McCain an audience he couldn't attract on his own.

I think a lot of us will be watching to see if there's a 'train wreck'. Biden is famous for his gaffes and quick shots at his opponents. Palin seems lost without a printed script in front of her, or McCain or an aide beside her to 'translate'.

My guess is that the big surprise will happen IF Palin can get over being 'star struck'.

The more I see from Alaskans about her and how her debate and leadership performances are, the more I'm beginning to think that she's just in a state of amazed shock.

I don't think her apparent mental lapses and filling time with meaningless talk is truly a sign that she's somehow mentally deficient.

My take - and tonight is her best chance to get over it - is that she's stunned by realizing she's being interviewed by 'stars' of the news media.

Think of it as meeting your favorite star and he/she is asking YOU about what your life.

Once that shock is over, hopeflly very soon, she's going to be formidable. If not, well, you know

Johnny - read what you said yourself.

""I would have hoped that she would have disclosed these facts to the debate commission because I doubt if she would have been selected then there would be no air of impropriety. As it is, I think this is tainted before it is even held." - Mrs Pig

She did."

NO - she did NOT disclose this fact to the commission. She decided it was not relevant, I believe it IS relevant and she knew that or she would have disclosed it "to the commission".

I expect to see Sarah Palin be herself, and that the Amercian people who are so tired of politicians are going to realize that this is the closest candidate we have had to a "NON-politician" that still lives a regular life in many years. I expect that if she does well tonight, Obama's Momma says Noboma!

Keep in mind that for the live debate blog tonight we'll be using that new tool I showed everyone on Monday that operates like a live chat. I will work to approve very quickly. Everyone who tried it, liked it a great deal. Angela

Smorgas_Of_Borg-I agree. Don't much like anything about Palin, but I'm pretty sure she is not as dumb as she has come across in interviews, and as I said before and Ken D. just said, b/c of the debate format that they pushed through she will "stump" more than answer questions.

I think they should change the debate format to compound bows at 20 paces... Lets see how biden handles THAT!

In politics, nothing is clear and they like it that way and will do anything to keep it that way.

"I expect to see Sarah Palin be herself" You said it, Ms. P- At the RNC and Charlie Baboon interview, she was her brilliant self. It looks like her "handlers" tried to pressure-form her into something more Washingtonian before her Katie Commie interview and she looked uncomfortable in her own skin.

Oh, we're getting change in January, all right. It just won't be coming from whom the media wants.

I can't stand Katie Commie- her ratings continue to tank even with the Palin interview. Wonder when CBS will wise up and get rid of her?

Im not sure I understand the admiration of Palin @ the convention. She read a speech and belted out one-liners written by someone else...why is that moment her "gold standard"?

What do I expect from tonights debates? I expect lots of blogs tomorrow on it. Some funny, some mean, some truly insightful. I don't think we're going to get all the answers about Palin tonight, this is her first real test. I'm sure it will make the next SNL show though.

"Palin will do much better than many expect. In this format, if she doesn't want to answer a question, she can spend her alloted time by giving a standard "stump speech" response, knowing that the moderator won't be able to continue to press her to elaborate on the real question." - Ken D

I concur. It's telling that the McCain campaign insisted that no follow-up questions be allowed. (wow) That immediately telegraphs their strategy with Palin. It will be up to post-debate punditry to enumerate how many actual answers she provides tonight.

ToL, ROTFL!!! It would be about as fair as using a moderator who was so in the tank for BHO, that she'd written a book about him. Hypothetically, that is...

Ms P-, Katie Commie will keep her job if BHO is elected. She's out the door with yesterday's N&O if he loses. Wanna bet?

"Smorgas_Of_Borg-I agree. Don't much like anything about Palin, but I'm pretty sure she is not as dumb as she has come across in interviews, and as I said before and Ken D. just said, b/c of the debate format that they pushed through she will "stump" more than answer questions."

---

Sadly, the Presidential Debates Commission doesn't have the chutzpah to get the candidates on stage and then grill them mercilessly in a format of the Commission's choosing rather than the political parties.

I don't get the control the format of job interviews I've attended...why should they?

As to my expectations, the campaigns have been doing their level best to set low expectations and they're likely right.

Biden's in a particularly tough position...he can't appear to patronise her or ignore her completely without having the Republicans howl that he's being sexist...even attacking McCain is probably the winning strategy.

Palin? I wonder what lines she'll feed Tina Fey for the next SNL skit!

Youcan'tbeserious - do you really think ANY of them right their own speeches? You can't be serious!!!

TOL- yep!

Continuity - I hope you are right. I can not stand to see that woman on TV. Whatever idiot thought she represented the "common American woman" when she is nothing but a twitty self-important tart is beyond me.

Mrs. P- i know they all just read speeches written by others....my point was to question why her RNC speech was her gold standard.
