what do you expect from tonight's debate?
Published Oct 2, 2008Views: 644
I'm sure we've all heard speculation about tonight's debate and likely have our own opinions. The truth is, no one really knows what we'll be saying once it's all over.
But at this very moment, what are your thoughts? Do you predict a clear winner, or will it be a draw?

May she enjoy many hours of unknown magazine reading about distant court cases, learning more parrot scripts, improving her already demonstrably impressive skill to speak for minutes while not saying anything and, finally, waiving hello to her frequent visitors sent by Putin from over the way (that she doesn't seem to know the name of).
Tina will be pleased to see the back of her.

She did.
The book was announced in late July of this year. Both campaigns agreed to the choice of moderators in August.
This old non-news item has been dredged up this week to deliberately sour the debate in Palin's favor.

Her book also includes Colin Powell. Does that make her biased towards towards conservatives? The part about Obama isn't even written yet!

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081002/D93I484G3.html The host of PBS'"Washington Week" and senior correspondent on "The NewsHour" said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press.
If the commission has any sense they will replace her - NOW before the debate.

Biden?
Seriously?
Biden?
You are talking about Joe Biden right?
Hopefully, his helicopter won't get forced down near the coal mine he worked in four 12 hours and then played football for 4 hours as he pulled himself up by the old moss covered three handled family credenza - oh wait that was Neil Kinnock - my bad...

By the way, I think she can easily be un-biased since she is african american (like obama) and a female (like palin). Seems like chose wisely, lol :P

There are still a lot of people (roughly half) who WANT her to do well, and for them, this will be enough. So I expect a lot of non-answers.
I also expect this may be the last time we will hear much from Gov. Palin during the campaign. I expect her role in the future to be limited to introducing McCain at rallies. With the prospect of seeing her, at least a respectable crowd will show up, giving McCain an audience he couldn't attract on his own.

My guess is that the big surprise will happen IF Palin can get over being 'star struck'.
The more I see from Alaskans about her and how her debate and leadership performances are, the more I'm beginning to think that she's just in a state of amazed shock.
I don't think her apparent mental lapses and filling time with meaningless talk is truly a sign that she's somehow mentally deficient.
My take - and tonight is her best chance to get over it - is that she's stunned by realizing she's being interviewed by 'stars' of the news media.
Think of it as meeting your favorite star and he/she is asking YOU about what your life.
Once that shock is over, hopeflly very soon, she's going to be formidable. If not, well, you know

""I would have hoped that she would have disclosed these facts to the debate commission because I doubt if she would have been selected then there would be no air of impropriety. As it is, I think this is tainted before it is even held." - Mrs Pig
She did."
NO - she did NOT disclose this fact to the commission. She decided it was not relevant, I believe it IS relevant and she knew that or she would have disclosed it "to the commission".
I expect to see Sarah Palin be herself, and that the Amercian people who are so tired of politicians are going to realize that this is the closest candidate we have had to a "NON-politician" that still lives a regular life in many years. I expect that if she does well tonight, Obama's Momma says Noboma!

I concur. It's telling that the McCain campaign insisted that no follow-up questions be allowed. (wow) That immediately telegraphs their strategy with Palin. It will be up to post-debate punditry to enumerate how many actual answers she provides tonight.

Sadly, the Presidential Debates Commission doesn't have the chutzpah to get the candidates on stage and then grill them mercilessly in a format of the Commission's choosing rather than the political parties.
I don't get the control the format of job interviews I've attended...why should they?
As to my expectations, the campaigns have been doing their level best to set low expectations and they're likely right.
Biden's in a particularly tough position...he can't appear to patronise her or ignore her completely without having the Republicans howl that he's being sexist...even attacking McCain is probably the winning strategy.
Palin? I wonder what lines she'll feed Tina Fey for the next SNL skit!

Continuity - I hope you are right. I can not stand to see that woman on TV. Whatever idiot thought she represented the "common American woman" when she is nothing but a twitty self-important tart is beyond me.
