I heard on the radio this morning that GSK is going to cut 800 jobs!!!!  Wow... I can't believe this, right after hearing that SonyEriccson is cutting jobs too...  It makes you wonder?  I just wanted to read people's opinions about the job cuts, is your job in danger? Do you know someone who is effected by this?

I got laid off today :-(

GSK has cut so many jobs in the last 8 years they probably couldn't count them all. This is hardly a new thing for them and hardly in response to the banking mess. The last two things people will buy when there's no money left is food and drugs.

GSK is always cutting jobs, it's every man for them selves. I am barely hanging on.

"From what NPR was saying, it was research positions that were being shoveled out the door." - NeverSurrender

Not true. It includes late phase development, too, which at RTP supports the manufacturing operations in Zebulon.

So far, only jointheir has said anything remotely near the truth.

I do work for GSK.

There are "up to 600" positions within a particular directorate to be lost across all internation sites.

It is NOT 800 jobs at RTP.

It is NOT a response to the current banking crisis.

Employees have been aware of this "second wave" of redundancies since the start of the "first wave" about a year ago.

It is part of a major house cleaning to ensure the company can be nimble, and maintain and grow its market position.

As with the previous round, I'm in the hot seat, so the above isn't just the ramblings of a pro-GSK hack.

It's my fault. I quit buying most of those stupid things I don't need and when I did buy a little cheap lamp last week, yup, it was from China. Sorry about the economy.

People losing jobs left and right, and those "dummies" at that woodplant in Moncure still out there on their lil picket line. On strike. Must depressing knwoing while they're out there on the line by the railroadtracks just off of Old U.S. one between New Hill and Moncure, while they're out there with their lil card tables, bottled water and cheezwiz, other's who are more than willing to work, have gone past the line and are now doing the very jobs the strikers used to do.

"JUST FYI - THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE "CRISIS". This layoff was planned, and those of you who know GSK know it happens often in GSK. I work for GSK and I have seen this happen before MANY TIMES even when the economy is fine."

---

From what NPR was saying, it was research positions that were being shoveled out the door. For a company whose lifeblood is research and development, that doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

Aren't half of these cuts supposed to be outside of the U.S.? (I may be wrong - but I believe that's what I heard on the news this morning.)

dont know where your info is coming from but GSK is not sinking..
