More banks could fail, too. In the second quarter that ended in June, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. estimated 117 banks and thrifts were in trouble, the most since 2003.

I'd like to know what banks are on that list!

Let's see...between Carter and Clinton there was Regan, Regan and Bush Sr....and the trickle down economics was RR's idea...so before we go all "Democratic fault"...there is plenty to go around. But the main problem seems to be no one wants to be accountable. "The buck stops here" seems to just a memory.

Sorry but this was not stay the course; an attempt was made in 2003 to get better control of fannie and freddie. Another attempt in 2005. Both times, members of congress insisted there was not a problem with Fannie and Freddie. Now either the people insisting there was no problem were exceedingly stupid, or more likely their interest was in keeping their congressional seats. Sadly, these things will be overlooked and many of the same dolts will be still sitting in Congress after November. I want to throw all of the incumbents out. At least we will have a different set of b ut s in the chairs.

If a ship is headed towards an iceberg, then the current captain needs to change the course of the ship.

Stay the course is what I have heard for 8 years.

bam, iceberg.

It doesn't matter who started us down this path. The current administration had 8 years to correct our path. They chose go full throttle at that iceberg. Now we all are paying.

I hate to tell you this. This all started with the Carter administration and accelerated with Clinton's.My parents in the 60's bought a house in California.They put quite a chunk down as they had a great savings plan.They never owned a credit card.We lived with in our means.My mom made a lot of our clothes.When my dad passed away he was less than a grand in debt due to his business.How many of us can say that? Carter and Clinton wanted everyone to prosper and have a house.The trickle down effect has bit us in the hiney.

yr3 - typical that you blame bush. This debacle was handed to us by AMERICANS. Our congress for decades made many mistakes. However, from the person sitting down signing the loan to the finks that pawned off a bunch of bad paper, that is who caused this. Regardless of what any politician does, when too many of us fail to do the right things a price gets paid. Unfortunately, those of us that did nothing wrong are going to pay for this.

Indeed, now that the House defeated the bill that could shore them up, more will fail.

And when they fail, everything goes folks - and not just here, but overseas as well.

So let's see the House come up with a better idea for saving our country's economy.
