weird tales???

Published Sep. 29, 2008

Well Halloween is just around the corner and a blog about it got me to thinking about some times when strange things happened to me.

Let me say this;  I have never seen, heard, or any other way come in contact with a spook, spirit, or anything out of the ordinary.  I have, however, had some weird funny things happen.  Like the time I saw my neighbor after her funeral.

I live in a small quite rural neighborhood where all the neighbors know each other.  Across from me lived a very nice old lady.  I am not sure how old she actually is, but she had a flag pole and flag in her front yard in honor of her son who died in Vietnam and I know her husband has past.  If I had to guess I would put her around 80.

After my wife left and I found myself between jobs, we would talk sometimes during the day and she would give me tomatoes from her garden.

Well one day I finally get a job and I am leaving early and getting home late so I don’t see her much anymore.  Well one day I am pulling into the neighborhood and I see the slow funeral signs up.  I see her house has a wreath on it.  I was pretty sad, because she was always so nice.  I go and get a bereavement card and when I see her other son in the driveway I take him the card.  I tell him how sorry I was to hear about what happened and that she will be missed and give him the card.

About two weeks later I am pulling out of my driveway to go to work and it is still dark outside.  My headlights hit her driveway and what do I see but her standing there with her cane and she is waving at me.  I shriek and nearly run into the ditch.  I jump out of the car as she is coming over to me.  She asks are you alright?  I said in a very shaky voice “Yeah”.  She said that she just wanted to thank me for sending such a lovely card for her daughter.  She said she passed away suddenly and they had the services and such at her house.

So that is the closest I ever came to seeing a ghost.

There was one other time when I was a kid.  I may have been around 10 at the time.  I am riding with my Uncle who was only around 16-17 himself.  We were out in Snow Camp which is very rural and just traveling along.  It was daylight out; I would put it around 2:00 in the afternoon.

I see something in the sky to the right of the car.  It was a huge ship of some kind.  It was long and very dark with lights along the bottom.  I remember that because I thought it was weird that the lights were on the bottom.  I point at it and ask my Uncle what is that?

Bang!! Next thing I know I am just sitting there riding in the car.  I look around but no ship.  I ask my Uncle about it, but he says he never saw anything.

Now Occam’s razor (All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best.) would say that a young boy fell asleep and had a vivid dream.  I just don’t remember falling asleep or waking up.  Weird huh?

I firmly believe that my first house - a 1920's brick bungalow that I renovated - was haunted. My dog was a puppy when I lived there, and he always used to "play" with our resident spook. Lights would come off and on, random footsteps, the whole nine yards. Strangely enough, I never felt creeped out by it - I always kind of liked it, as if it was some kind of protective spirit. The guy I was dating at the time, though, got SO freaked out that he finally refused to stay over anymore.

Come on Hagar. You can't leave us hanging like that.

I've had a few strange experiences. Ghost? Maybe.

I have a couple stories to tell but I don't feel like typing that much. One was on my honeymoon, the other was on our anniversary and the last has to do with taro cards.

NEVER

"Strangest thing that ever happened to me -

My fourth husband.

Honest!!!"

some people ever learn...

I had a strange experience when I was a child. I was riding with my aunt and my cousin back home one night. We were driving along a road that follows a small river in the foothills of western NC. The car radio started to go to static and the lights in the car dimmed. About that time, a bright "ball" of light came down the hill and slammed into the hood of her car. The car died and it's lights went out, but then they came back on in a few seconds. Needless to say, she restarted the car and high-talied it out of there. The next day, there was a scorch mark on the hood and fender of the car.

There had always been tales of strange lights in that area, but I had never seen anything strange before or since. There was no lightening that night.

For years, I wondered what it was until I saw a special on "Earth Lights". What they describe sounds like what I saw. They seem to occur near running water and granite which describes that area.

There's usually a scientific explanation.

I believe, I believe... :)

ryoung... I have seen lights in the sky as you describe in Saxphahaw! - conamor

Wow!! That is surprising!

gandalf2 - "sorry have never believed in ghosts and/or spirits .. especially ones that can talk and interact with a person ... now do I really know if they exist ... nope I don't but until I actually have an experience with one its all a bunch of bunk far as I am concerned ..."

10/4, and I understand exactly where you're coming from.

But...

(you knew that was coming didn't you)

I grew up in a 275 year old haunted house, and that changed my mind.

I am still leery of stories from other folks though, until I see proof.

God bless.
