After a nearly two-month hiatus, The GOLO Profiles are finally back! We begin this next round with the kind-hearted NCMomof3, who says on her profile that her granny is her hero, and that with her, what you see is what you get. Meet NCMomof3:
Angela: I know that you work with kids. Is that something you always wanted to do?
NCMomof3: No. I started out as a secretary. When we lived in Hawaii I applied for a job as a secretary. They trained me as an emergency dispatcher and I loved it. I found my niche. That’s what I wanted to do.
Angela: Why didn’t you stick with it?
NCMomof3: When we came back here (to the states) I learned I was pregnant with my third son and decided to stay home. The funny thing is my husband had a doctor’s appointment to get a vasectomy when I learned I was pregnant with my third son.
Angela: I guess it was meant to be, huh?
NCMomof3: It was so funny when I showed him the plus sign of the pregnancy test. He asked me what it meant, and I said: “well the minus sign means no.” And he said: “So the plus sign means “hell no?”
(We both laugh…)
Angela: Okay, back to the story. How exactly did you end up working with kids?
NCMomof3: All the moms started asking me to get their kids off the bus so I ended up with a house full of kids.
Angela: So you went from getting kids off the bus, to running a home daycare?
NCMomof3: I didn’t want to put my son in daycare and a friend of mine asked me if I’d thought about getting my daycare license.
Angela: So this was totally unexpected?
NCMomof3: Yep. And, now I am nationally accredited with a five-star license.
Angela: Good for you. Those five stars are a big deal, right?
NCMomof3: Yes, but I tell people don’t look at those stars. You can be one star and have a great daycare. You can also have five stars and be just the opposite. They only come out once every three years to test you in a 5 hour time span.
Angela: Why does childcare get such a bad wrap?
NCMomof3: A lot of people go into it thinking its easy money. I hear that a lot at training classes. People think there’s grant money out there or that DSS pays well. They think they don’t have to do a lot and the kids take care of themselves.
Well, anything that you do you need to put your whole heart into it.
Especially with kids.
Angela: What do you find most fulfilling about your line of work?
NCMomof3: Working with the kids. My favorite thing is to get one when they’re 6-8 weeks old and keep them as long as they need me to. I still have some that come back to me. My oldest one is 11 and I started with her when she was an infant. That to me is what family childcare is about.
Angela: What do you do when you’re not with kids?
NCMomof3: I read. I’m active in the PTA and church with two youth groups and ladies group.
Angela: What are you reading right now?
NCMomof3: I just finished a J.D. Robb book, Stranger than Death. She’s my favorite author.
Angela: Are you in any book clubs?
NCMomof3: No. I am in college part time, trying to earn my degree in early childhood education...
Angela: When do you take a break?
NCMomof3: I don’t
Angela: We must be kindred spirits.
NCMomof3: I’m happiest when I’m busy which is good I guess.
Angela: What do you like about GOLO?
NCMomof3: When I get the kids down for a nap it gives me some adult companionship, which is one of the reasons the trolls aggravate me. It reminds me of my two year olds. They need to stop.
Angela: You find out tomorrow you won a million dollars. What do you do the next day?
NCMomof3: That’s a hard one. Pay off my bills. (Pauses) I would not quit working because I enjoy what I do. My husband would probably quit working. Not a lot would change. I just wouldn’t have any bills to pay. My husband would be home more to aggravate me.
Angela: What’s your earliest memory of your own childhood?
NCMomof3: A migraine.
Tell me about that.
NCMomof3: My dad wasn’t very active with us children but my mom convinced him to take me somewhere and I had a migraine. I remember hurting and him panicking and taking me home. I was young. I was not in school yet. He never took me anywhere else by himself.
Angela: Not even as you got older?
NCMomof3: It scared him that badly
Angela: Do you still get migraines?
NCMomof3: I do.
Angela: How often do you get them?
NCMomof3: Very often during hurricane season. I can go for months without them and months getting them every other day. I’ve heard when I reach menopause they’ll get better.
Angela: In one sentence what are your thoughts about this historic election?
NCMomof3: I wish people wouldn’t focus so much on race or gender because at the end of the day, that’s not what we need in the white house. What we need is experience and character and backbone. That’s not saying which candidate has what. My granny told me to never vote a party, always vote a candidate and do my research. She said vote for the candidate whose character goes along with yours. I wish people would focus more on that.
Angela: Alright Granny! So if you ran for office what would be your platform?
NCMomof3: That’s hard to choose. There are so many things that need change. We always need change. Every election you need to change something. But what do you need to change. That’s the question.
Angela: Are you a North Carolina native?
NCMomof3: Yes. I was born in Scotland Neck, near Rocky Mount.
Angela: Will you live here forever?
NCMomof3: Yes, my husband is a disabled veteran and we’ve settled here in Fayetteville.
Angela: What do you want people to say about you once you’re gone?
NCMomof3: That I was friends with everybody.
Angela: Is that possible?
NCMomof3: I try. Not everybody likes me but most people do. My phone rings 24/7.
Angela: Do you have a 20 year plan for your life?
NCMomof3: I want to get my degree, my son out of high school and out of college and the last one out of high school. And in 10 years my husband will be retired and I will have a large home daycare and he will be helping me.
Angela: Your commitment to kids has really impressed me.
NCMomof3: Kids and old people are my soft spots.
(We laugh…)
Angela: Is there anything you want to say to your GOLO friends?
NCMomof3:Don’t judge me too harshly. Because some of them can.
Angela: Okay well I have really enjoyed you.
NCMomof3: Me too. You’re doing a good job.
Angela: Thank you!

I gotta tell you that the "no" and "hell no" reply concerning the plus and minus on that test had me rolling on the floor. That was sooooo funny and the laugh you two gave me made my day!!!!!!
NCMomOf3... you must be full of patience in taking care of those children. And easy-going. And hard to make angry. And I think you have a very good and kind heart because you do care for others. Yeap....Golo is plumb full of good folks. Very good folks at that.
