Published Sep. 22, 2008Without providing details regarding my association with the gentleman referenced, his story is certainly a worthy read. In fact, you may have already learned of CAPT Ivan Castro as he has been in the news quite a bit, both locally and nationally. In fact, Coach K (and that's not why I wrote this blog) used the very story of CAPT Castro in motivating his players to give their country 150% because of the sacrifices of our many American military members.
Below are two links regarding CAPT Castro. The first is a brief YouTube clip of his finishing one of our "shirt runs" in a local running club that I am in. View time range 1:48-2:18. The second link is a story covering CAPT Castro's finish of the Airforce Marathon this past weekend.

Over the years I've ran marathons with lots of different folks, one man and woman had artificial legs made just for running, I've seen them in wheelchairs, pushing a child with cancer in a stroller by a dad who wasn't even a runner, but never with a person without being able to see, what an inspiration Capt. Castro is to us all!!!
You tell him that we appreciate his sacrafice, but more than that, I appreciate his out look on life, "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome!"
Capt. Castro is truly an inpiration to all!!!
Btw, the first video reminds of the Ellerbe Springs Marathon course, I ran that one twice. The only one that I enjoyed more was the Grandfather Mtn. Marathon.
