remembering 9/11 | where were you?

I've heard stories throughout my life about the whereabouts of family members on the day JFK was killed. I've heard similar stories about the day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. I can probably recount my grandmother's entire day verbatim. That's how many times I've heard about it.

My future grandchildren will likely know the story of where I was when I learned about the twin towers and how their mother who was 13-months-old at the time was literally yanked from the changing table and allowed to crawl around the house with a great deal of freedom that morning because I was in shock, glued to the TV and calling everyone I could.

I won't go into the rest because this will be the longest blog ever if I do. But I'd love to hear your stories. Where were you when you heard, and what do you remember most about that fateful day?

I was on my way to the post office. I heard it on the radio and couldn't really believe what I was hearing, at first. Especially, when they grounded every airplane in the nation and shut down the airports. That was a surreal day.

Beth

I was working at a high school in Charlotte. First, I remember thinking that it couldn't be real. That, surely, there was some mistake. My very next thought went to calling everyone I loved and making sure they were ok - even though none of them were in NYC. Then, I heard about the downed flights and the nightmare started all over again.

I was at work and someone came onto the floor yelling a plane hit the tower ( the first one ) 5 of us there went into the break room, by the next hour we had 100 people from our floor and the floor above us in our break room, people were crying and trying to reach relatives in nyc on their cells

it was horrid

and just that morning on my drive to work the song all you need is love was playing

I was taking a class at the time -- we didn't hear the news until a guy showed up late and mentioned it. Many people had never heard of the World Trade Center before that day, but I guarantee everybody knows about it now.

Under a house in Carolina Trace installing an HVAC system.........

Sitting in health class at Western Harnett High School

I was watching CNN on TV and saw it happened i broke down in tears knowing of all the loved ones that where killed and making phone calls to every one i knew and staying glued to the TV in shock.

I was at work. We all ended up in the TV room watching TV crying and praying.

I was watching Good Morning America preparing my kids to go to playgroup. After calling my husband at work to let him know waht was happening and calling family, I went to playgroup. We moms sat there dumbfounded at what was happening while the kids played oblivious to what was happening. My how things have changed for us and them in 7 years.

Beth said it was a Surreal day, and boy do I agree. I worked for RDU Airport at the time. When it was all going on at first, I thought it was some movie footage. I was literally stunned all day.
