They are Mushy Peas.
I *love* shrimp'n'grits. I also have that if it is on a menu, especially if they are done spicy.

They are called Mushy Peas and split pea soup is quite similar. The peas have to be marrowfat peas to get the right flavor. They are traditional side with fish and chips. They look a bit grim but taste great.
