hanna is fran's 'nice little sister'
Published Sep. 6, 2008After hitting the sack early last night, I got up around 2:30 this morning and have been watching the conditions outside since.
Heavy rains have been falling and only light winds have been blowing. But now the rain is coming down a little lighter and the winds are beginning to gust more frequently.
I'm watching the line of young (but tall) hardwoods that are lined up behind my condo's building. They are swaying right much and that is making me a little nervous.
So far Hanna is being like Fran's nice little sister. We'll be seeing how much gusto she has in her in the next few hours as the storm's center approaches the Triangle area. This rainfall will surely alter the drought maps. Gentle Hanna may be a God-send...if she'll only behave as she passes through.
Great storm coverage has been the rule of thumb from WRAL...as always. Renee Chou in Wrightsville Beach should be nominated the MVP of the storm's coverage. When the station had her reporting on the air earlier, I thought that wind was going to blow her away! I hope all the staff at WRAL covering Hanna will get overtime pay for their efforts. They deserve it.
Anyway, watch these winds in the coming hours if you're in the Triangle. The worst Hanna has to offer is at our doorsteps now.

This is rich........
I know, it will probably get a little worse before it starts to get "better" - biggest danger is the soaked ground, which loosens the soil and roots, and then trees sometimes just basically fall over without much help from the wind..... That, and a little flooding the next couple of days and creeks and rivers crest.
