let the games begin
Published Sep. 5, 2008The conventions are over. We have been introduced to the families of all four candidates. We now know the highlights of their history. Now we need details on what they believe and what they intend to do.
I expect to see lengthy and detailed position papers on dozens and dozens of topics on each of their web sites.
I want to see a number of debates in a number of different formats between now and November, and not just the pitiful few that then have scheduled.
I want to see all four get hammered on the news shows in direct interviews where anyone who asks a softball question is immediately shot.
I want to see if they can maintain the pressures of continual campaigning where most people would have problems figuring out what city they are in on any given day.
I want to see the medical and tax records of all the candidates as well as detailed reports on their financial holdings -- not just the ignorant summaries that Congress requires of their members.
I want to see the press dig deep into the pasts of all four, exposing in detail the stupid things they have said and done -- in context and without spin.
I want to see the full voting records of them all so I can judge where they stand on the issues when it comes down to making the decision.
I want to see detailed reports of how then intend to manage government, how they intend to pay for their programs, and what laws they intend to pass. I want to see the preliminary text of bills they would like Congress to consider.
Time to get to work boys and girl.

It doesn't matter if the Dems put a hyena on the ticket...McCain/Palin are going down! You have GWB to thank for that.

I think they did too. That was their scheme to get the black votes and win the White House back. I hope in the end it backfires on them. They should of put Powell up there and I know I'd feel different.

Of course, putting money into 401k's and such reduces your taxable income and might reduce your tax rate.
BTW, making $62k in 2006 was considered "upper class".

I look at the specific positions of all the potential candidates. If I can not get very specific positions on a vast number of issues, I will not vote for that candidate. So then I look at who remains.
Of who remains, if there is a candidate whose positions closely conform to what I believe, I vote for that candidate. If not, then I enter the voting booth and turn in a ballot without making a mark next to anyone's name.
In the past, and as a direct function of my own belief system, I have overwhelming voted for Republican candidates. But in several elections and with several offices, I have voted for Democrats, Libertarians, and other third-party candidates, mainly because the Republican did not provide the information I demand of a candidate expecting my vote.
And several times I have voted for no one.
