pot calling the kettle...
Published Sep. 4, 2008You know. I've always been proud to be an Independent, more of a Libertarian. I've never held to the social conservative beliefs for the most part (illegal immigration being the exception). I have backed many a liberal when it comes to social issues. Because most of the time, I feel the are dead on. Especially on critical issues such as woman's choice, descrimination, etc.
Now, I absolutely love Sarah Palin. I dislike her social conservatism. But everything else is like a tiger ready to pounce and she doesn't pull punches even in her own party. With so many liberals on GOLO who have complained about all the negative Obama blogs, I thought I'd sit back and watch what happened when the liberals got ahold of Sarah Palin.
All I got was dissapoitment. Here is what I mean:
Key liberal arguments I've seen against Sarah Palin -
- She can't even raise her own family - why should I trust her with mine.
Well one, she isn't going to raise your family that's your job. And wow what a broad sweeping generalized comment that means absolutely nothing but someone reaching for straws. It hardly deserves any merit at all
- She wants Abstinence taught in schools or pull funding - yet she can't even keep her own daughter from getting pregnant
Well here is a clear case of pushing the envelope. I have looked everywhere I possibly could. Here is what I found: Palin's stance on Abstinence is that it should be taught. I have yet to find a quote in any paper or interview where she stated abstinence was the "ONLY" thing that should be taught. Currently, if you look at the majority of public schools that teach sex ed, all they teach is - "Here is where the penis goes... this is what it does... you get pregnant doing this. Wear a condom, take birth control". That's it, nothing else. What Palin's commentary was about - is that abstinence should be taught in addition to that. "Here is the best thing to do - DON'T DO IT. But if you are just going to blatenely ignore that, then here is what you can do to protect yourself from getting pregnant or getting the girl pregnant". SO FAR, I have not seen ANYTHING that says that was the "only" thing that should be taught in schools and nothing esle. (It may exist - but Lord knows, it certainly is buried and not easy to find)
And for those of you making this comment with kids? When they are teenagers - I'd like you to reflect on your comment again. WIll the first parent who can control their teenagers 100% please raise their hands? You could be a rich person teaching the rest of us. YOu can instill values and morals into your kids. But peers and society get a crack at them two. That's the other 2/3 that make up the whole when a teenager thinks. You can do everything right, but you can't control what they do when they leave the house. All you can do is pray they make the right decisions using what you have taught them. Anyone who thinks that Sarah Palin could have kept her daughter from having sex? Can you please come teach us all your power and wisdom!
- With a special needs child and all the children she has, should she really be doing this? Shouldn't she be taking care of her family?
OOOOOh Tisk tisk. This coming from liberals? Seriously? What happened to a woman's rights? What happened to treating a woman like an equal? Can't the husband help - shouldn't he be exected to help?
Let me ask it a little clearer - Obama has 2 daughters. Obama has made public issues of the importance of black men raising their children and being part of the "family". So I ask you liberals - when will Obama have time to be the imporant black role model father he wants other black men to be if he is President. Won't the job be too demanding?
Hillary as First Lady - raising Chelsea. The First Lady is very busy, almost as busy as the VP. No one asked about her ability to raise Chelsea.
Liberals making this comment? Reeks of discrimination! Discrimination against women - as if - by making the comment they are suggesting "a woman's place is in the home". That goes against everything women and liberals have faught for!
My favorite:
- She knew she was haivng a special needs child and had it anyway. How horrible. How self-fish.
I thought most liberals were Pro-Choice. I know I am. So, guess what. This was her CHOICE. She CHOSE to not have an abortion because she is against it. It was her right, her choice. You can't make the argument that a woman should have the right to choose, then get angry because Palin didn't make the choice YOU thought she should have. That just flat out reeks of the same smak you liberals claim that conservatives do when they try to force their "moral agenda" on you. You're doing the same thing!
Which adds to the argument. If you don't want conservatives 'legislating' their morality on you, then stop doing it yourself. Based on that argument alone - you have absolutely NO RIGHT to pass judgements on how she raises her family - short of abusing them.
How come your not angry that Obama raises his two daughter in hate? Aren't liberals about peace? If he is taking those girls to that church he went to? All he's doing is indoctrinating them into hate. That is FAR more damaging in my eyes. But it is his choice. So it is not my place to pass that judgement.
While I'm addressing these issues, let me step away from Palin for a moment.
- McCain is too old and senile. He can't do the job and will die in office and leave us screwed.
Again - DESCRIMINATION! I keep hearing liberals say that conservatives are biggots and racists. But with McCain/ Palin? I've seen nothing BUT Descrimination from liberals and media.
I'm sure all the retired elderly people out there are feeling comfortable knowing that you think every one of them who turn 70 are on the verge of death and all senile and incompetant. It is the most rediculous - far reaching - assinine thing to say. And completely inappropriate - not to mention AGE DESCRIMINATION
- McCain takes Ambien - he won't be able to wake up and be alert when needed
Ok, aside from the fact that liberals making this comment are really just uninformed and reaching, this is simply a far reaching false hood. Not to mention - Descrimination yet again. I've taken Ambien for 4 years ( I don't anymore because I don't need to). I was having nightmares from a traumatic experience that was literally ruining my life. I'd gotten calls from my daughter at 1am because she was in a car accident. I was able to not only hear the phone but easily wake up and go get her.
Now, I'd also like to add the sheer stupidity of the comment. Because what you are saying actually is that, any American who takes any medications that have "possible side effects" (which is all of them) are incapable of doing their jobs and shouldn't have them.
One of the side effects of Lipitor (sp?) is a type of senility. So I'm sure that all American's taking this shouldn't be working! Seriously?
I've got several more - but frankly - I haven't had coffee yet and I think this is long enough this early in the morning.
It is however, Important for me to note here, I am pro-choice. I am against descrimination of any kind - to minorities, women, elderly, etc. Which is why this angers me so much. It should NOT be coming from those who CLAIM to be against it

I bet your parents might disagree Tidbit, I'm sure mine would!
And of course you didn't represent any positive comments from Liberals on here -- and of course -- surprise, it wasn't the topic of the blog -- you are just as guilty as any of the negative posters on here.
I will vote based on the positive things I feel my candidate CAN do, I will not vote based on the negative things that are said about the other candidate.
So to me all the negativity does is show how childish even grownups can be!

I saw that too and thought, "WHAT AN IDIOT!"
How anyone out there can find the room to criticize giving a disabled child life is unconscionable. Why? Because we all have problems, some far more serious than Downs Syndrome.
God bless.

Yeah, I've seen them. I was referring to the comment that basically said the liberals are saying she should have aborted her 5th child. I haven't seen any of that in here.

Yes - PLEASE GIVE ME A CREDIBLE LINK. I've been looking since Saturday. I have NOT found anything of this sort.
I have found where she stated that public schools not teaching absitence with birth control should have funding removed.
In other words BOTH. But I have not found where she stated or back anything saying that Abstinence was the ONLY thing that should be taught and funding should be removed if anything else was.

I can't remember whose blog it was - but it was on Saturday I happen to catch it. But it was not the last time I saw that either. Just not here. I've seen it all over the place on different message boards and other blog sites.

They say that - because they are afraid of her. she has no problem calling them out for unethical issues - and they are afraid! As well they should be! It doesn't take brain surgury to see that. (or maybe for some it does).
Uhm - Kay Hagen's Husband is a partner in an oil company who has a vested interest in keeping the oil at a high price per barrel. they have sites in 5 different states. But I bet you're all for her anyway. What's your point?
