don't get sick on holidays or weekends!
Published Aug. 30, 2008ECU trains physycians and nurses. Why on EARTH can't a few of them stay on a 27,000 student-strong campus to tend to sick students on holidays and weekends? I guess spending $14,000 for college per student doesn't allow for ONE physician and ONE nurse to stay on call at the infirmary? Shouldn't the ECU school of medicine utilize their positions in training and physician care? After all, these days, the physicians need to learn most of all that people do not get sick only between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday! If that is the job you intend to do, then live with the facts and take the responsibility. God knows you get paid enough, but don't treat it like a desk job!
The issue here should concern any parent that has a child at ECU or any other college that doesn't provide 24 hr. access to health care. What other colleges are running a 9-5, M-F type of approach to the student's health care? When your child is extremely sick and it is a holiday, they are put in danger due to the fact that the university has "shut down'. No bus transportation. No student store to buy medicines. NO PHYSICIAN on call.
ECU SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS and so should all the other major universities!

As for ECU and the party school image. I agree with those folks who say: What school isn't a party school?!! So, the dad transferred his child to UNC because it isn't a party school? haha make me laugh. Kids drink at every college. I'm sure that kid drank at UNC as well.

Sounds like your friend didn’t have any self-discipline and needed daddy close by to keep him nose to the grindstone. As a Raleigh native and one who has been to all the area Universities for weekend trips, the amount of partying is the same. It's just they do it better @ECU!

On the other hand I agree that someone should staff the medical offices 24/7 or at least be on call. We pay a lot of money to go to these schools, and the service just isn't there.

I have done my best to impress this upon my college freshman. She has never been a partier but you still have to stay focused on the REASON you are there.

I have other sources for my medical care.
Besides, they probably don’t have a gerontologist on call anyway ....
