remember all the rain we got before hurricane fran?

Could it be here we go again?  Not be an alarmist, but I have been thinking about the possiblity that if Hurricane Hanna were to hit North Carolina, how potentailly devestating it could be.  Back in 1996, the ground was soaked weeks before Hurricane Fran came along. Saturated soil meant that trees were no match for the winds.  Trees fell, power-lines toppled and Raleigh was left a mess.  I remember people lining up at big-box stores, to be let in just a few at time, to retrieve staples such as ice and non-perishable foods.  I went for 4 days without power at my house.

Hanna is just now getting started in the Atlantic, and it's no guarantee that it will continue to go NW.  But if you look at the models, all but one keeps it on track to the north and west.

Along with Hurricane Gustav becoming a major hurricane in the gulf, it's going to be a busy week in the weather department!

Hmmmmm...You just might be on to something. I was wondering the same thing several days ago. I hope we are both wrong.

Sept is always the most busy in the hurricane department, and this year is no different. Be glad we're not in NO!

My goodness, Fran was bad, and then a few of my friends lost their houses in Floyd from flooding. I don't want any more of that, but I know it's only a matter of time before we get another.

I think Hazel was worse, but we didn't have the 24-hour, total news coverage we have today so Fran could have been worse. After Fran everyone was saying it was the worst ever for the state.

I was noticing that yesterday. There seems to be a regular conveyor belt of activity in the Atlantic.

I didn't know about Hanna myself! It's really cool that you have noticed the same pattern. Honestly, all I remember about Fran was that it hit us like a freight train. It was supposed to stay away from Raleigh, and then it hit us out of nowhere. I had an eighteen-month old baby at the time...NOT fun for me either! I may try to get prepared, thanks for sharing!

To make my last post make more sense, I was on well water....no power, no water.

Fran hit us like a dart hitting a bullseye. I had no power for almost 3 weeks. I was smelling pretty "campy" the days prior to having my power restored. I remember that night it hit like it was yesterday. I hope never again do we get a storm like that.

Bertha came through right before Fran. Dennis came through right before Floyd. Odd how the 2 most devastating storms I can remember both came on the backs of other "smaller" hurricanes.

I was just looking at the Wunderground.com site and it has a lot of information about both these storm. Here is the link. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/

Things are getting a little bit crazy in the Atlantic and the timing of these storm is just erry. Fran and Floyd were the worst for us in the piedmont and coastal area in a lot of years. I was a little girl when Hazel came and I remember it from looking out my window and our pecan trees just lay down and died. I sure hope and pray that Hanna and Gustav stay away..
