americans lined up for the jobs the illegals were doing!

But wait. The open-borders folks are always telling us these are jobs Americans won’t do. John “Lettuce” McCain doesn’t think these Americans exist, either. Yet here they are, American citizens lining up to do the work illegal aliens were doing (just like they did after the Colorado Swift raids):

Howard Industries found itself at the center of activity again Tuesday.

Hundreds of job applicants lined up, eager to take advantage of the sudden job openings at the plant located in Jones County, where the unemployment rate is 6.3 percent.

ICE agents on Monday seized 595 plant workers suspected of being in the country illegally. Several workers, who did not identify themselves, said Tuesday they were working and trying to keep the plant operational in the wake of the sudden loss of co-workers.

They said it was common knowledge many of their co-workers were suspected to be illegal.

It’s an idea that maddens Samantha Stevens, 18, of Heidelberg, who was among those who pulled up to Avenue A across from the plant’s entrance throughout the day. She said she has been unable to find a job since she graduated from Heidelberg High School in the spring and blames, in part, the willingness of companies to hire illegal workers.

“We were here first. It’s not fair for them to have a job,” she explained.

Others welcomed the vacancies left by the detained workers.

Gwendolyn Watkins, 40, of Stonewall said she drove 40 miles to Laurel to fill out an application with the electronics maker. She worked at Tower Automotive in Meridian as a production worker for eight months before job cuts in June left her unemployed.

She now hopes to get on at Howard, and said that, while “everyone needs a job,” she believes that legal workers should be the priority

I agree with most of your post Kevin; however, for every small step that is taken to solve the problem, I'm happy for it. This country is full of people who want problems solved instantly. That's an unrealistic and immature attitude. We've got hundreds more miles of border fence that will be completed this year. That's a big help in slowing down that invasion. The E-verify program is starting to have an impact in identifying illegals. We've got new detention centers being built to house illegals waiting for deportation hearings. There are many things being done, we just need to keep pushing for more. We aren't going to solve a 20 year problem, in 20 minutes. The corporations had their years of corporate welfare. Wages have been suppressed because of it, & they will rise, when they have to start paying a decent wage. Will prices rise, too? Of course! But I don't mind paying higher prices in order to put more US citizens to work.

I think it's amazing, as was said yesterday, that these illegals have the audacity to be upset and frightened that they are being rounded up and deported. They know they are here illegally. They know enough about the law to jump and run from auto wrecks, that is, when they are sober enough to run. Hooray for they Americans who now have job openings!!!!! Illegals, go home!

The argument of those who support open borders has always been that Americans won't do the jobs, the truth is they won't do them at the ultra low wages illegal aliens do them for.

This is a complicated issue because like it or not, our economy has become dependent on this cheap labor so an abrupt change could have a significan impact. I agree that enforcing existing laws would be a big step but in all honesty I don't see either party applying much more than a token effort to deal with the issue as a whole any time soon.

If this was my blog, there would be no post at all from anarchist, a profile that was created today evidently for this blog, because I don't tolerate the weak and spineless.

"The change will have to come from the courts and DAs who have the courage to take a stand and won't be polluted by political aspirations. The solution is simple.. throw the hiring execs in jail. Set a few legal precedents and come down hard, SEC style. Then throw more in jail... When every last CEO of every corporation in this country understands he is breaking the law and will be punished, the hiring behavior will stop."

Does anyone see the irony in this statement from a poster named "anarchist"?

LOL - "anarchist" is my tongue-in-cheek view of moderated forums, not my political leanings.. I'm one of them jesse ventura independents. ;-)

I would wager to bet that the millions of US dollars spent on social benefits, medicaid, and education to illegal immigrants far out numbers that which illegals pay into Social Security.

Americans are FAR from being reimbursed.

Con Amor - well said on the Social Security thing. There are certainly a number of government agencies that benefit from illegal immigrants. Again, selfishness ahead of the interest of the citizens.

CON AMOR: It is the gov't fault! They know good and well what's going on.

FYI: Some do not have SSNs at all and are still having babies on taxpayers dime (Medicaid).

Also, The Social Security Adm HAPPILY takes the money that these millions of "illegals" pay into the system with their made up ss numbers. They can not, and do not file for tax refunds at the end of the year. Why keep blaming the immigrants, and the employers. The Social Security Adm knows whats going on too. But, what they fail to report, is how many millions of $$ they knowingly collect from "illegals".

con amor - "There NEEDS to be a legal path!!!! But if there was, then all of you would have nothing to byach about or blame your problems on!"

There is. I took it. So did my father. That path may need revisions, but to say that it doesn't exist is completely untrue. A person can legally enter the country. Our borders are not closed to migrants or I wouldn't be here. Nor would my neighbors.
