teaching conditions?

Published Aug. 27, 2008

My first days of school has gone pretty smoothly. My students seem to be well mannered and polite, I dont see any issues right off. I do have one problem though. Unfortunate I cannot post the pic because its not saved on this computer but if you go to my profile you can see.  Yesterday I was in my room (a mobile unit) for about twenty minutes.  Then it started to rain. And rain, and rain.  To sum it up, I had my homeroom in the auditorium, and the rest of my classes in the mobile unit used for ISS. Luckily no one is in trouble the first days of school so it was open.  Now I love my job, I think everyone who knows me knows that. And I can handle being in this mobile unit because we are going to a brand new school next year.  But HAving to wade in 8 inches of water and mud yesterday did not please me.  Just had to vent a lil bit. BTW, My summer was awesome, hope you saw the pics of our trip to murrells inlet.  Now I am ready to mold these young minds.

Our poor 5th grade teacher learned the hard way that maintenance had dug a trench near her trailer in order to put in our new --get this--toilet trailers! (The trench was for the plumbing; they're not the toilets.)She went up to her knees in fresh mud and couldn't get out until some of her kids helped her. The school nurse went out and bought her a new pair of pants so she could teach the rest of the day!

Counting the toilet trailers our school now has 21 trailers. Our new school is supposed to open in 2010, but they've yet to dig a hole so I have my doubts. :-)

Being a teacher is a very stressful job, I'm sure, but a very rewarding one. My praises to you for doing what you do!

I'll send hip boots! lol

we have a problem with drainage out our school too. bless your heart....admin should take the appropriate steps to get better drainage. seems they just slap those units in an empty hole and don't think about the possible rain accumulation.

Iteech - "I love what I do, so I can put up with some of this,"

Yeah, and the administrators know that, so they use it against you. That was one of the biggest reasons I left the profession. I shouldn't be treated worse because I love my job and do it with a passion. Again, I salute you for staying with it.

J Dub, You are an oficer... enough said.

GG, we were only in there 15 min so it was cool. Kids still had to run through the rain to get to the ISS hut so wet times all around.

N-S-D, I love what I do, so I can put up with some of this, although I think I hear thunder... LOL. Put the kids first, I like that idea.

Thank you for what you do Iteech! Being a Police Officer, there is NO WAY in H*LL that I could work with some of those kids and their parents!

And they wonder why the teachers in the state show a 10% turnover rate each year. Things like this just show that the system doesn't care about the teachers. I have long said that here in Wake County, the administration buildings should be turned into schools and the bureaucracy put in mobile units. You know, put the kids first.

Thanks for doing what you do. As a former teacher, I know it isn't easy and things like this can really wear on you.

Good morning Teech! No one here would question your desire. You are a great teacher. I wouldnt want to wade thru water either. Thank goodness for the auditorium and the mobile unit. How focused were the children in the auditorium? LOL
