what is wrong with liberals? the answer is what is easy

Published Aug. 25, 2008

It's easier to be dependent than to provide; easier to spend other people's money than your own; easier to destroy than create; easier to protest than support; easier to be entitled than to earn; easier to demand than supply; easier to observe than act; easier to run than to fight; easier to criticize than to do; easier to lecture than perform; easier to follow than to lead; easier to complain than adjust; easier to cheat than to merit; easier to receive than give; easier to conform than to stand out; easier to give in than to convince; easier to be in consensus than independent; easier to think with the group than for yourself; easier to be liked than ridiculed; easier to be feared than respected; easier to savage than to praise...

We conservatives, on the other hand, do not have the luxury of 'easier'. We have to go to work, raise our families and fend off the government's ever reaching meat hooks away from our homes, children and income. We do not give money to elected representatives to compete with lobbyists so as to leave us alone. We do not organize, riot, protest, seek outrage behind every word or deed, search out injustice or stick our preferences into everyone else's business. In short, we don't have the free time to be gullible. We've grown up, moved on and long ago accepted that life ain't always fair.

But the siren song of 'easy' can become too tempting to ignore even for the non-gullible. Why fight it constantly? "What the hell, I'll take a gubment dollar or two - God knows I've been bled dry". That's how they keep staying in power - steal from one, give to another while the simple-minded applaud and do a lemming march to the voting booth.

The founders of our country had no intention of turning over the government to the popular vote. Instead, land owners had the only say. Senators were appointed by the several states and the President was elected by the electoral college. Today, the gullible are a problem because we give them the ballot without the consequences.

Why do Republicans feel the neverending need to write gibberish at every outlet possible? Seems to be a form of insecurity. They trot out the same tired cliches and nonsense "facts" ad nauseum with nothing constructive or interesting to say. Only conservatives go out to work, conservatives don't lobby Capitol Hill. How stupid. The real working class (not the fake "middle class" in our "classless society") are far from conservative - they are the ones who work hard and for little reward. They are the ones who need protection from industries that would rather see them enslaved. Conservatives don't believe in society - just what they can get for themselves especially if they can find a suitable justification in their books of fables.

This blog is like a kid at school saying a dirty word - not once, not twice but for ever and ever until the day he dies. It's not big and it most certainly isn't funny.

It was liberal-minded people (Whigs) who fought to make this nation independent. It was conservative-minded people (Tories) who oppposed it. If the latter had their way, we'd all be singing God Save The Queen.

I'd like to see, then, your response to the rest of the questions---that first one was more rhetorical, and the rest are more practical, and I want to hear practical solutions to those very real problems.

Many conservatives can only point out "how bad liberals are." The challenge is to point out ways that we can compromise and find solutions in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.

"How can you breathe, way up there?"

Because I have my feet firmly on the ground and are in the pits of the liberal versus common sense war all day every day. Perhaps you should step outside and see how far liberals are compared to us folk who have to fight for what is the real deal versus some socialist rhetoric that they believe everyone should listen to - but then turn around and don't follow.

Perhaps - Obama is that person who has a great story that will be ignored for the sake of socialist plans.

Perhaps - only perhaps liberals will one day get what they just deserve.

nashvegas-

It is fairly easy when there are many liberals who go way off the deep end when compared to the beliefs of America. 60% of Americans in a recent poll say they are more conservative than liberal. Only 9% state that they are Ultra-Liberal.

Understand - You forget that even a flounder has two sides.

TheAmdiral Write: "easier to criticize than to do"

That is quite ironic since all you seem to do here on GOLO is to criticize everyone and everything that is different from your set of beliefs...

Seems like you have forgotten the founding principle of American government... 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' - Thomas Jefferson...

How can you breathe, way up there? Up in that special place where a handful of words can explain a world of problems, and where everything fits neatly in your perception and design?

So you would have it decreed that only the fit, property-owning, gainfully employed people of our country would have the right to vote? The right to a life?

What about the disabled? Those that cannot work due to medical reasons or physical infirmities? Does your perfect world allow for those that can no longer be gainfully employed? And what of the disabled veterans--those who have served our country and were injured and can no longer serve and no longer work? What would you have us do with them?

You open a Pandora's Box of "what ifs" that you believe are solved by your outlook on life and the "way things ought to be."

Please make sure you use only your fair share of oxygen up there. You might wind up on the wrong side of your "easier to's"

Well said
