what's your earliest memory of the state fair?

I'll admit, I've only been to one North Carolina State Fair having only lived here for 18 months, but the Michigan State Fair brings back fond memories of time spent with my family.
I learned really quickly that the State Fair here is HUGE. People were uploading their images, taking off work, and even letting their kids miss school to attend! That told me right there that the North Carolina State Fair meant a lot, to the people who live here.
So what is it that you love most about the fair? And what is your earliest memory?

My favorite part is the Day's of Yesteryear, I believe that's what they call it, and of course I love all of the farm exhibits, and the handmade furniture section. My wife bought me a handmade Chess Table that year from a gentleman that lives in Charlotte, he delivered to our house the weekend of Thanksgiving.
