gubernatorial debate

Published Aug. 20, 2008

So did anyone catch last nights Gubernatorial Debate from Durham?

1st..  Gubernatorial .. now that's a funny word. Guber - too close to Goober to me.. which is exactly how I saw one of the players.

While I wasn't impressed with many of McCrory's answers, to me, he took that debate hands down. For one reason and one reason only: For the most part he actually answered the stupid questions.

When Perdue was asked about Healthcare - all she could do was mutter on about how important Mammograms were and prostate checks.

Well duh...  that was not the question. The question was, what is your plan? Of course she just didn't get it.

When asked about illegal immigration - Perdue? Well the Federal government needs to do something. But for all the undocumented workers in NC? We need to get them documented.

Ok - I'm wrong. I give her credit there. She answered the question. She plans on making NC a safe haven by giving documents to illegals that the Federal Gov't won't.  Nice!  (She's really not that bright is she - how has she gotten this far?)

When asked about drilling - she did somewhat answer the question, however her lack of knowledge was so clear and forthcoming it was scary. MUCH like her NC Energy policy ideas. She doesn't have a clue.  She wants to MAKE oil companies drill on the leases they already have.

Perdue (and other clueless people) - If you had been paying attetention or keeping up with facts - you would have been "in the know" that the reason that the current leases have not be utilized is because 1) there isn't enough in the specific areas that have been leased to make it cost effective to drill 2) some are so deep that deep sea ocean drilling is super expensive and would hurt not help.

Come on Perdue - you want to run NC! You gotta keep up!!!!!

Why is it so hard to find qualified people who really want the job to help the people.

I may not have agreed with many of McCrory's answers but at least he actually put thought into them and clearly are issues he's made himself "in the know" about enough that he could answer the questions intellegently.

BY THE WAY: THIS DEBATE Made me think about something last night.
I HAVE A QUESTION TO ALL LIBERALS:

Why exactly are school vouchers bad to you? Public schools are failing. We keep throwing more money and more money and more money. In Wake Co alone the estimated cost per child in public schools is over $13,000 per child.

It costs less than that at most private schools in Wake Co, per child and it has been proven acedemically that private schools out perform public.

So why is giving vouchers (credits) to parents who CHOOSE to take their child out of public school and put them in private school a bad idea?

I'm being serious, I don't understand the argument against it.

Garnerwolf1 - let me summarize his economic policies. Take money from Person A. Give money to Person B. Then wonder why Person A leaves the country.

I really wish more people would get on the backs of politicians about the idea of sending the money with the students. The argument that it takes money from the public schools makes no sense. Their funding is based on number of students. So if tomorrow everyone with kids moved to another state, the schools would get zero dollars. The public schools right now are the most expensive solution (and one that is failing). We not only have to pay for the teachers and administration, we also have to pay for the property, building the schools, and maintaining the schools. We also have to pay all the operating expenses, heating, cooling lighting, transporting the kids. The Wake County Budget alone this year is close to 1 billion dollars and that is not counting the additional money we are spending to service the bond debt which is over 100 million. We need to have an entirely different system.

let's line up the debates, one a week. edventually some of BOBBLEHEAD BEV'S supporters have got to watch one of these and realize they just can't go through with it and vote for her.

A few things I remember last night were the 1. $1000 family or $500 tax credit for people who WORK. 2. Eliminate income tax on retirees making less than 50k. 3. Renogotation of NAFTA. 4. $15 Billion/Year to Science. 5. Predatoty Lending/Credit Legislation 6. Windfall taxes on oil companies that don't re-invest in green technology. some of what I recall. I am sure you can see specicifics on his website.

What did he say were his economic policies?

Perdue just strikes me as being a mean mouthed woman without very much substinance. More of a career politician than a chief executive of a state.

Don't worry. If Perdue wins she will not be running anything. It will still be the same group of Good Ol Boys that have had this state by the neck for the past 16 years.

Beverly Perdue is a pawn in North Carolina politics.

It was interesting and I was definitely appreciative I took the time to attend tidbit. He spoke for an hour, laid out his economic policies and then held a question/answer forum afterwards. He took about 10 questions, he answered them all to the point and was interactive with the audience. The only problem was lack of AC in that building last night!

Tidbit- it was actually quite eye-opening. I have seen him before, but last night he held a question and answer session. One question he put some smack down on African-American men talking about their fathering skills, etc. Another question he was blunt about people being fat- he basically said, "You might not like this answer, but I'm being honest..." Poor guy had a cold though for sure. Kept sneezing and blowing his nose.

Irishii - how was that?
