Fishing piers are some of the most interesting places to visit. No matter what time of day or night you visit, there's always something going on. What better place to visit a fishing pier than right here in North Carolina? However, over the past decade or so, the number of fishing piers in the state has been decreasing, mainly because of hurricane damages. From sightseers to serious fishermen, many people visit piers for that unique "out-in-the-water" feeling or the "peace and quiet" away from the screaming kids on the beach. But on the day I snapped this photo, there were no fishermen (or fisherwomen) in sight at the end of the pier -- the end reserved for fishermen only.

Was it the heat of that early June afternoon, or just simply nothing biting at the time? Maybe everybody was taking a lunch break. I do feel sorry, though, for the people responsible for untangling lines.

So today's blog topic is all about fishing piers. Specifically, why do you go to a pier -- to fish, to just stroll the length of the pier sightseeing, or for some other reason? If you've ever caught a whopper from the pier, tell us your story! If you've never caught a single thing from the pier, we still want to hear your story! And for the sightseers on GOLO: do you have any special memories of fishing pier adventures? Maybe the day you got snagged by a runaway hook, or perhaps the time you tripped and fell over a loose wooden plank? Maybe even the day you or your spouse popped the question at sunset at the end of the pier? Don't limit yourself to these questions -- if you've got a story even remotely pier-related, feel free to share!
