coupons, passe or still of value?

Hello Money Savers....

Are many of you still clipping coupons from the Sunday paper, or are you printing them from the web? OR, have you given up on them altogether?

It seems that whenever I peruse coupons, I never see the products I buy, so admittedly I've pretty much stopped seeking them out.      

BUT, when I looked at coupons.com last night, I did see the yogurt, cereal and granola bars I buy, so maybe there is hope and I should consider getting back in the coupon game. I plan to go back and see how much information I have to provide in order to register, then I'll make a decision.

What about you?

Do you still clip coupons, or is clipping coupons just a waste of time?

I still clip coupons, and print coupons online. A penny saved is a penny earned.

Why not have a get together every couple of months and have coupon trades? Doesnt have to be the same amount or anything, just some time to get together as friends and maybe save some money as well. There used to be a thing that I belonged to many years ago. It was started by stay at home mothers. We all made a list of the things we used most often and copied the list. Each of us checked our coupons of the things we didnt use and sent them via (real mail) to those that needed them. It worked out really well for the mothers who needed diapers etc and those of us who got constant coupons for things we didnt use. We also had a meeting every couple of months and put all the coupons in a basket and everyone got a turn to go up and check out the basket and take what was needed. Just some ideas to ponder.

Sam's does not accept coupons but BJ's does.

I use this site www.mygrocerydeals.com. It gives you a one place stop for all the grocery deals based on the grocery stores in your zip code. The grocery store deals plus coupons are great. Food lion, last night, gallon of milk, 2-4pack of Pillsbury Busicuits, 2 boxes of brownies mix, 3 boxes of Name brand cereal, 2 packs of ball park franks and a 5 lb of sugar. My total cost was 17.23. My savings were more than I spent, so that was a good trip $$$$$$

I usually clip coupons for tried-and-true, long-time-buyer products, like Colgate toothpaste or Degree deodorant. If you time it just right, you can get them for less than a buck with a store sale and the coupon. The drug stores like CVS usually have sales on hygiene products, too, so combine that with the coupon and BAM! You got it for a deal. Other than the tried-and-true, I usually just get store-brand products. To me, the taste is nothing to argue over - it tastes just the same. It's like eating your aunt's casserole versus your mom's casserole. Same product, different recipe.

I've found that store-name brands cost less than using coupons that are most always for the major-brand items. I do a lot of my shopping at the nearby Sam's Club. I don't know if Sam's accepts coupons or not, but I need to check into that. Every penny helps these days. The main reason I shop at Sam's is their prices. For example, I can buy a gallon of milk for about $3.39. At some of the grocery chains, it can cost up to over $4.00/gal. PLUS, buying in bulk saves me additional money by not having to go every week. Money saved on gas far out-weighs any coupons found in the paper or online.
