will progress energy get it;s 16 percent?
Published Jul. 30, 2008For those of you that have Progress Energy as your electric provider, they have asked the Utilities Commission for a 16 percent increase. Looking at my usage from last year that will increase my annual power bill by around 348 dollars or 29 dollars per month. This will also provide a windfall tax haul for the state because they tack on a 3 percent tax to my bill.
I am out of options for conserving, I get a conservation credit on my bill and I have reduced my usage by half of what it used to be when I first moved into this house. Guess I could quit using lights all together and take cold showers.

Who's going to stop them? They have no competition.
They pushed me to do an 'average monthly fee" so they didn't need to check my meter (even thought they install a digital meter they can read without going to the house). It would work out great for them but I would have to pay a $12 a month service charge to keep them from reading my usage which is very little compared to most people.
There should be an open market for everything...
