Tuesday April 8, 1975
Today is a day like none I have ever experienced. Something happened yesterday at about 6:00 PM. I said a name and was “transformed” instantly. Good Baptist people would say I got “born again.” All I know is that something happened and I don’t know what. I can only tell you what I experienced. It was not a dream. I was not asleep. Laugh is you want mock if you must but I know something wonderful happened to me. You name it if you can. I felt different toward everything I saw, heard, and everyone I met.
I couldn’t wait to tell one special person what had taken place. His name was Bobby and he was the pastor of a small country church. When I went to where he worked and related my story to him I said I wanted to be baptized. He said he would be glad to do it for me. I wanted it as soon as we could arrange it.
There was a pond beside the road going to the church he pastored. That’s where all the people from his church were baptized. I said that would surely suffice.
This was Tuesday and the next church service was Wednesday. We planned to meet at the pond Tuesday evening and get the job done. I arrived before Bobby and Harold, his brother.
When he got there he said, “You been waiting long?”I said, “Thirty one years.” At that time I was thirty-one years old and that’s how long I had been waiting to turn my attention to the things that mattered. I was a different man and wanted to just enjoy the peace and freedom. It felt like a ton of rocks had been taken off my back. I wanted to go to church so bad.
That hunger inside that I described earlier had gone away but I had another kind of hunger. This hunger was to know what I could about God. That place that was previously empty and gnawing inside me was now gone. Again, good Baptist would say that was what happened when you were “saved.” I wanted church, fellowship with church people, and I wanted a Bible. Wednesday night was the day for the next service at Bobby’s church and I wanted so much for it to be church night today.
God! What was happening to me?
Were all those Baptist correct? All I know is something happened and I couldn’t explain nor understand it.
Wednesday morning my first stop was at a Christian Book store where I purchased leather bound Ryrie Study Bible. That night I went to church for the first time in years and I really felt I was in the right place.

You'll love the ending almost as much as this part. Believe me, this is far from the end. From April 7, 1975 until now there's a lot to write about.
