monetary awards for school age children
Published Jul. 24, 2008Here is a list of award opportunities for mostly high school students. Although there are a few for younger children. A friend passed these on to me. I haven't checked them out thoroughly, but if anyone is interested, they seem pretty easy to check out
1. Amelia Magazine awards $200 for a high school student's first publication of a previously unpublished poem, non fiction essay or short story. Deadline is May 15 of each year. Address follows:

2. VFW Awards $25,00 to 9-12 graders for Audio Essays. Essays should be 3-5 minutes based on a patriotic theme established by the VFW. You can contact your local VFW chapter or ,,the address that follows:

3. The VFW ladies Auxiliary has an art competition that awards 3 levels, up to $10,000 for high school students that need help furthering their education. 1st place winner also receives an all expense paid trip to the conference in Washington DC. 4. The AIM Magazine has a short story contest for short stories that promote brotherhood. Story has to be no more than 4000 words. For more info contact www.aimmagazine.org
5. Dupont offers a $1500 award for first place winners of a science essay for children in 7-12th grades. There are different divisions. In addition, each first place winner receives an all expense paid trip to the space center in Houston, TX along with their parents. 4 finalists receive $500. For more info, contact:

6. AAA offers cash awards for children kindergarten through 12th grade and college students for their poster contest. Awards range from $150 to $500 Contact:

7. Toshiba offers awards to students K-12 of $5,000 and $10,000 and Toshiba prizes to teachers in their ExploraVisions program. Students compose essays (illustrated or not) of what they feel technology will be like 20 years from now. There are 4 categories to compete in. Contact:

I hope these help. I just received these early this morning from a mom dropping off her children. I have a son that will be going into the 11th grade and one going into the 6th. I'm going to share these with their schools and I'll be looking into them for myself. I apologize if some of the information isn't current as I have not had the chance to check it all out yet myself.
