Here is a list of award opportunities for mostly high school students.  Although there are a few for younger children.  A friend passed these on to me.  I haven't checked them out thoroughly, but if anyone is interested, they seem pretty easy to check out

2.  VFW Awards $25,00 to 9-12 graders for Audio Essays.  Essays should be 3-5 minutes based on a patriotic theme established by the VFW.  You can contact your local VFW chapter or ,,the address that follows:

3.  The VFW ladies Auxiliary has an art competition that awards 3 levels, up to $10,000 for high school students that need help furthering their education.  1st place winner also receives an all expense paid trip to the conference in Washington DC.  For more info you can contact your local VFW Ladies Aux chapter or the address below:

 7.  Toshiba offers awards to students K-12 of $5,000 and $10,000 and Toshiba prizes to teachers in their ExploraVisions program.  Students compose essays (illustrated or not) of what they feel technology will be like 20 years from now.  There are 4 categories to compete in.  Contact:

I hope these help.  I just received these early this morning from a mom dropping off her children.  I have a son that will be going into the 11th grade and one going into the 6th.  I'm going to share these with their schools and I'll be looking into them for myself.  I apologize if some of the information isn't current as I have not had the chance to check it all out yet myself.

My son was awarded $1,500 from the local VFW and the local Son's of Confederate Veterans for his efforts on writing essays. Never overlook anything in these kinds of scolarship awards. I've been told many are never even applied for and no award is granted in that case. If you've got a high school student that could use the help these kinds of awards can provide, call and ask around to the local civic organizations to see what they have available.

I would be willing to bet if I were a betting woman that companies like AAA will not pick unless the submitter has a parent or family (household) who member is a AAA member. It like the Vietnam Veterans Scholarships.

thanks momof3- my daughter is entering high school this year and because I hadn't a clue about all this stuff when my son graduated, I vow to educated myself and to take advantage of any and every opprtunity she could possibly get.

The awards my son got from the VFW and SCV weren't contingent on being a member. He'd heard about the availability of the money thru his guidance counselor at school, and applied to find out the rules and subject for the essay. I am a member of the American Legion, but he didn't win anything there.

Good info!!! Thanks for sharing.
