american red cross: a necessity in today's world

Published Jul. 24, 2008

There are many charity groups that offer help to their community in times of need. In this day and time, these services at hand can play a life-supporting role for many victims when tragedy strikes unexpectedly. We are very fortunate to have such an important assest available to us.

Yesterday at work, the American Red Cross came and several of my co-workers, including myself, took their course in CPR/AED training. They had everything necessary to learn this valuable skill... work manuals, videos, dummies to practice on, and one heck of a great teacher. I learned a lot in those six hours we were in class. And having the manual to keep will certainly help us in making sure we perfect this new skill.

I strongly want to suggest to you that learning CPR can in fact save someone's life. It could be a co-worker's, a stranger in need, or even a family member that could benefit from your knowledge of knowing what to do in case of an emergency. There was numerous situations covered... from heart attacks to strokes to giving first aid. It is my plea that you ask your workplace to sign up for this course for their employees. The cost is modest, yet the possibilities of having something so valuable at hand are real...and you can't put a price tag on saving someone's life. And that's exactly what you will learn.

In today's world, there are many disasters lurking in possibility. We are faced with these suddenly and usually without warning. Heart attacks are the number one killers of American adults. It would be wise to be prepared.

The American Red Cross doesn't limit their aid to health emergencies either. They collect blood- the livelihood of life. They go to weather-related disasters, as they have in past, like hurricanes, tornados, and tidal waves. You'll even see them housing and feeding fire victims who are suddenly homeless. And you can bet that if we ever suffer another terrorist attack that they will be there with their help.

I hope that you will consider supporting this organization. In the world we live in today, we need them to be a strong tool readily available for when the need arises. And consider taking their CPR training... they are pros in teaching this life-saving skill. I highly recommend it to you. And your financial support will endure their ability to respond to the next tragedy that comes along. And that it will. Please support them in advance. It is hurricane season again, and they ARE doing their thing down in Texas as you read this. Let's support them.

We created a safety commitee at work in hopes of reducing/eliminating workerman's comp claims. Our record for the past few years have been unacceptable. In response, we have updated our MSDS book, have held safety meetings, as well as imposed new rules for working with machinery. That includes saws to vehicles. We also ask for suggestions from our employees, and one of those suggestions was learning CPR. That we did do, and we are likely to be getting a difribulator in the very near future. So as you can tell, the company I work for is serious about job safety, and rightfully so. Their workman's comp is outragously high.

Wake Forest offers CPR classes for 25.00,or so it use to be.If anyone is interested. It's time for me and my daughter to get recertified.

They helped me when my house burned down in '06. I sat in their truck, in shock, and they were a kind voice and a calming hand in a hard time.I ALWAYS support them~~

I think they took some hits over their involvement with the Jena Six demonstrations...something about handing out food and water to the demonstrators...

Taking a course in CPR is mandatory for my major in school (dental hygiene). I'm glad I took it. It's a good skill to have.

No doubt the Red Cross is always there in need. If you and your coworkers go through any further training - maybe the place would have a difribulator on hand. Good life saving device also and you can buy them on the net, and at the medical supply stores.

I don't think any charity is perfect. But the benefits of having them far out-weighs any shortfalls that might occur. Volunteers and donations make up their ability to help. And that help is available without any clauses that one finds in their insurance policies. I'm sending them a check tonight in hopes of helping someone in need later.

I give blood to them because I have one of the rarer blood types. AB-

But because of a medical issue, I can't donate anymore. But lordy, that doesn't keep them from calling my house to remind me it is time to donate again, even though I've told them I can't. I ask them, again... can I? They say no - you won't ever be able to, so I ask if they'd quit calling. Then they are calling again (just last night). Worse than telemarketers

the reasons i do not support the red cross any longer....much of the blood donated from 9/11 was destroyed. Not enough bags or storeage....wow sorry red cross we had a big event you were not ready for....then we had a flood here in 2004...red cross moved in...took donations from local area...then moved out taking the money with them. And the last time i gave blood the nurse or whatever messed up the needle so it was fluttering in my vein, the blood began to clot and was unuseable....i know anyone could make a mistake.

They helped during Hurricanes Fran & Floyd in Wayne County. So many people depended on them while they tried to salvage their homes. A great bunch of people... A great organization.
