and we wonder what's wrong with america???
Published Jul. 23, 2008In discussing the Federal Minimum Wage Tax increase:
"It will help out a little," said Jasper, who with his fiancee support a family of seven, and who earns the minimum plus commissions when customers order premium car-wash services.
The bus fare he pays each day to get to work already went up to $4.80 this spring from $4. "I'd like to be on a job where I can at least get a car," he said.
You get desperate, because you can't really pay for everything," said Gladys Lopez, 51, a garment worker from Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, who makes military uniforms and has earned the federal minimum for 18 years.
She says she would need to make at least $50 more a week to pay all her bills and take care of her 84-year-old mother, whom she supports.

WTF???!?!?!?!?!?
Ok. People... seriously. That's your problem. Seriously. If you can't can't aspire to do anything than wash a car - you can't be expected to get paid $30k a year! It doesn't work like that. How about you go back to community college he could get a free ride on the American Tax payers to at least get an associates degree to get something better than washing cars!!
And the lady IN AMERICA whose worked for the same job for 18 years? SERIOUSLY, are you that stupid? There are other jobs out there. OH By the way, since you are a minority and a transplant - there are federal $$$$ to help you open your own seamstress or tailor business - THAT AREN"T AVAILABLE TO ME because I'm white and natural born here.
THese people have ABSOLUTELY NO Excuses other than themselves. NONE> and yet they are elated about a manditory minimum wage hike but upset because it's not enough? Come on give me a break.
But OH BOY Get this! People are actually surprised because what is the minimum wage hike going to do??? RAISE PRICES ON EVERYTHING ELSE to cover the cost. WELL DUH!!!
From Associated Press: Minimum wage earners see new raise vanish
"WASHINGTON - About 2 million Americans get a raise Thursday as the federal minimum wage rises 70 cents. The bad news: Higher gas and food prices are swallowing it up, and some small businesses will pass the cost of the wage hike to consumers."
And that's IF they don't go out of business all together because they can barely make it now!!!
"Some small businesses are already making plans to raise prices to offset the higher wages they have to pay their workers.
David Heath, owner of Tiki Tan in College Station, Texas, said the increase will force him to raise prices for his monthly tanning services by about 12 percent. Tiki Tan had been paying its employees $6 per hour.
"There just isn't any room for profit, and so this is why prices will have to go up," he said, citing the wage increase and higher fuel costs. "I have to recoup those costs."
WELL DUH! When are people going to learn... if you don't want a bottom feeding job that pays bare minimum - you better yourself. There are HUNDREDS of opportunities for everyone.
Those jobs are meant for people who are just getting started to get a leg up and a work background a stepping stone. Everyone has to start somewhere...
But if you stay there - it is no one's fault but your own.!!!!
Everyone has a choice. That's right a choice. You make the choices in your life. Situations come up you can't avoid .. but how you handle them is a choice.
These people have PLENTY of choices to not be where they are. The fault that they are... is soly on their shoulders. No one elses.

A good balance, right? Don't count on it.
Come Thursday, the national minimum wage will go up, from $5.85 an hour to $6.55 an hour. North Carolina's minimum wage is also increasing from $6.15 to $6.55. However, even as wages rise, many people are still struggling to get by."
Guess what. Until folks realize that you can't have a $100,000 a year job with a high school education, this is a story that will always be thrown in front of the truck. I for one is sick of it.
This is another story whare "What can government do for me" is the answer rather than - I need to stop having kids and go to school so I can provide for my family.
Additionally, in this story - if he can't afford an 80 cent increase in the bus fare, how is he going to afford a car.
Liberals are stupid.
