are wral moderators from china?

Published Jul. 23, 2008

About 50% of my post make this board.  Like them or not there is too much censorship on this board and it disgusts me.  Freedom of Speech is gone from this place.

The obese faux-asian says she has seen a fat skeleton. She should share this medical miracle. Or, might it be a case of just too much lard on too small a frame which is preventing her from thinking or seeing straight? We leave that to you, dear readers, to figure out.

"Do we always make the mark? No. And we also know that people will not always agree with our decisions. That's par for the course. Moderating comments on news stories while trying to uphold standards and create a community that people enjoy is a tough gig. An easy one to criticize, but a tough one for sure."

One thing that might make it a bit easier would be a feedback mechanism when a moderator rejects a comment.

Sure, you're always going to have the trolls and other chronic bad actors that should have their posts rejected out of hand and their comments terminated.

But I'd like to think the majority of users who may have unwittingly stepped over the line or are just having one bad day and getting into someone's kitchen would honestly appreciate knowing why their post bit the dust.

That would have the benefit of removing editorial bias or capriciousness on the part of the moderator as a reason for slamming golo...

If you don't like what you are allowed to do or say while you are here, no one is forcing you to come.

Coming to golo is like being invited to someone else's playground. They own it, but they are nice enough to share it as long as you follow their playgroud rules.

"Freedom of speech" has nothing to do with adhering to the rules established by the owner of these boards, namely WRAL. The rules are there for everyone to follow and to maintain some reasonable amount of civility. If you cannot adhere to the rules, then just leave!

It's not unlike your "right" to show up at a very nice restaurant while barefoot and wearing cut-off jeans and a tank top, and then being offended because they refused you service in accordance with their own standards.

There is NO freedom of speech on GOLO, a privately owned whatever it is. Some pretty slanted, uncivil stuff is posted, so I don't know what it is you might be trying to say that they don't want said? This one got through.

Free speech is a constitutional right designed to keep the federal government from making laws to limit it. Posting comments on stories is a privilege we are pleased to offer our visitors but we do expect comments to meet our standards, which include not making personal attacks on individuals, unsubstantiated claims or generalizations about groups of people. Our goal is to create an environment for civil and productive community dialogue.

Do we always make the mark? No. And we also know that people will not always agree with our decisions. That's par for the course. Moderating comments on news stories while trying to uphold standards and create a community that people enjoy is a tough gig. An easy one to criticize, but a tough one for sure.

meh2 - that wasnt very nice.

Because they own the domain www.wral.com

Besides...it's not like you made a big investment to say what you say on Golo. How much did they charge your Visa card for you to make your postings?

"go to a site where you can cuss and rant using vulgarity ever when you want. "

I state my opinion without cuss and vulgarity.
