studley: blog snips and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails
know-it-alls
Published Jul. 23, 2008It REALLY amazes me how many people on this forum, have so much negative to say about Durham, yet have NEVER been here, or spent very much time in the city what so ever...
Durham is a great place to live. I have MANY negative things to say about Raleigh, such as the majority of the place smells like sewage, the crime is BAD, (I've never had anyone aim a pistol at my car in Durham in order to jay walk, as headlong has on Gleenwood Ave.) Raleigh's murder rate has exceeded Durham's and is on it's way up. Raleigh has higher and more taxes and fines. WCPSS is poorly functioning... So many reasons to NOT choose to live there, not to mention traffic snarls, mismanaged infrasrtucture, worse leadership than in Durham, and that Raleigh has far more overt gang activity. Raleigh even stays in the news more than Durham, yet too many people on here are far too quick to flap their lips about things they know NOTHING about. My advice to you, is to just shut your flap.
I'm beyond tired of the misinformed BS being spewed here. GET OVER IT.
Every urban area has it problems, Durham is not different and by far, no worse than any other city of similar size or any or th er city in North Carolina... If some of the people who bashed Durham on a consistant basis grew some nads and got from behind their computer screens for once in a while, you'd see the truth about this area, that including Cary (people mysteriously turning up dead), Apex (crooked leadership), and Raliegh (gang activity where you are very likely to be victimized.)
I will be the first to admit that Durham is not full of saints, but those whe live in glass houses should NOT cast stones.
Further, I'd like to thank Angela for her efforst as getting people to realize their thoughts and comments on Durham are baseless.
Durham has alot of culture, and good eats. The people are not as snooty as those from Chapel Hill. On the other hand, they appear to have more drugs/criminals. I don't know the stats, that is just an observation. --Jackadoo It's more than an observation... People like to jump on the bandwagon, I assume for acceptance, but they really are just clueless to what they have to say, and in my mine that negates any opinion they may think they have, they're not even judging the book by it's cover, they're not even stopping to look at it before running off at the mouth. It's obvious to see in yet they choose keep their noses high and ignore their own citys' problems as it slips down the drain at break neck speed.

Neat places in Durham for sure. The schools are poor in performance, though. And some areas are unsuitable to live in with children. I guess that applies to many places but I know that North Raleigh had better schools and less worries regarding crime. Not an opinion to offend, just one as I saw it. :)

Did you bother to read the article and look where the guy is from? Go figure....
Stats don't lie. Per Capita, Durham is bad news and like I said, I would hate to see the place with a pop. of 300k or even 500k.

I like parts of Durham, but there are areas where I don't choose to travel. Ditto some of the areas of Raleigh, though.
I figure anyplace is what you make it.
I live in Cary, and I don't LOOK DOWN MY NOSE at anyone just because of where they live.
If I was into the 'looking down the nose' thing, I'm sure I could find reasons to do it other than people's addresses.
LOL
