They bought land between a state mental hospital and state prison, and by a rail road and across from the old city landfill. The mental hospital is going and they want a great park in place. Maybe the prison is going to have to go, too.

I'm all for a good hospital for prisoners, and I'm for them not being subject to the stereotype we see on TV. Being locked up is enough without hating them forever. We would want the same for ourselves and our friends or family who might step over the line one day. I imagine the prisoners would rather be over at Rex. I was in the presence of a prisoner last week at a doctor's office. Two guards were with him at the public's expense.

Thanks David for your insightful and thought provoking comment...LOL. It just proves that you don't live in real life. Try walking into CP as I do everyday that I go to work and then tell me it isn't needed. Do you know what the most dangerous part of a Correctional Officer's job is? Transporting an inmate outside of the prison. Add into that the thousands of people inside a public hospital that you are charged with protecting from this inmate. Not to mention the man hours of 2 COs per inmate and the gas back and forth to both transport the inmate and to change shifts for the officers. But that's ok, we'll just put a man with cancer out on the side of the road picking up trash so his wife can sue the state. Check out your tax bill after that happens a few times. Thanks David, great post.

Mayor Meeker lives in the neighborhood. He welcomes the changes. The DOC has not done anything underhanded. They have open and up front about this from the beginning. The other residents of this community have been too busy drinking their fine wines and double espresso non-fat mocha lattes to pay attention to what is going on in their own back yard.

it is cheaper to take care of that"scum" in house than to farm it out to the private sector. Ask any health care worker that works for the state

david- a central hospital prison will serve all the inmates in NC- they will be transferred to the central prison instead of being taken to the local community hospitals where they have to be monitered by 2 gaurds round the clock.

You are fooling yourself if you think this isn't needed. If you expect society to lock individuals up, where they are cared for under tax payer dollar, then you better believe if they aren't taking care of properly, the inmate (or the family of the inmate) is gonna sue the pants off the state if something happens to the inmate. So go ahead and call you legislature... but you darn well had better have a solution to your perceived problem before you do... otherwise, your part of the problem- you want something done, but you have no creative insight on how to get it done properly. Think before you speak.

The deal is the majority of the residents in that section of Boylan Heights are a bunch of liberal whiners.

Here is my comment. Why in the *!$* do the prisoners get a 336 bed hospital. How many prisoners do they expect to be sick? How about this idea, how about getting all of these lazy rear-end prisoners out on the road working their derriere's off cleaning our highways of trash and other debris, and that should keep them health so that they don't need a hospital with 336 beds in it. Did you know that Rex hospital has a total of 665 beds? That's right folks, a hospital that is half the size of Rex just to serve the crumbs, yet Rex serves everyone in Wake County? And I bet that they will have the newest and greatest of technology to go along with it! I've had it with this manure! If your as mad as I am call your legislative officials and yell like mad! Oh yeah, I would like to have used very offensive words, but the "bad word" filter prevented me from accomplishing that task.

I read the whole article... sounds like the people with money want something to complain about. They knew about this for over a year and the DOC are going to replace the tree buffer after construction is complete- what's the problem... I say they need to deal with it- it is needed construction.

I don't understand what the problem is.
