Political satire…when does it go too far?

Political satire has always pushed the envelope of good taste and especially in a heated political debate or at unpopular times in our country. With this presidential campaign in full force, I have seen cartoons flirting with topics such as sexism (anti-Hilary), racism (anti-Obama) and ageism (anti-McCain). The lines are clearly drawn here on Golo with satirical blogs coming from both sides of the political aisle. The blog a couple of spots down about McCain and the starving street people got me wondering about when does satire go alittle too far. Don’t get me wrong, I am not in an uproar and I have seen worse but it made me start thinking.

I think we have let go of the “PC” worries and the political arena has become a free-for-all including people on the same side letting the insults fly. Perfect example would be the comments Jessie Jackson made about Obama. What do you guys think? Are there still areas which are off-limits to discuss or does anything go from now on?

Some of these satirical pieces have been funny. Some not so much. I have seen examples for both Obama and McCain. I find most of them to be humorous. I can understand how certain topics could get offensive to people.

As I gaze into my Crystal Ball I see the old time Democrats having to choose between a black and a Republican, it can't get any better than that.

"The blog a couple of spots down about McCain and the starving street people got me wondering"

This piece has been misinterpreted to be a slam against McCain's POW status and somehow a slam against homeless people. It was neither. It's pure farce! It was inspired by a combination of a McCain POW political cartoon along with his famous temper. Surprising, really, to see so much indignation over it.

Excellent, very funny, true and twisted.

Maybe instead of the "Party Britches, a kilt would be preferable. I just don't know if I could stand the draftiness.

Oldrebel, when I first started drinking, one of my buddies told me not to break the seal for as long as I can. Thats one of the reasons why I don't drink beer..got to go all the time with it.

LMBO,,,,probably a confession,,,it's really amazing what can become reasonable once you've had a few

I've got a friend that calls them adult diapers that the pic of McCain's wearing, "Party Britches." He made the point one night, at a party out by the burn barrel, that it'd be a good idea to put these adult diapers on early Friday night so you wouldn't miss anything cool happening during the party when normally you'd leave to take care of business. With thr "Party Britches" you'd just cut loose while you stand there nursing your Natural Light and still be right there with all the shucking and jiving. I began wondering that night if it was just an idea ...or a confession.

It's funny and cruel at the same time.

too funny nice cartoon
