political satire
Published Jul. 22, 2008Political satire…when does it go too far?
Political satire has always pushed the envelope of good taste and especially in a heated political debate or at unpopular times in our country. With this presidential campaign in full force, I have seen cartoons flirting with topics such as sexism (anti-Hilary), racism (anti-Obama) and ageism (anti-McCain). The lines are clearly drawn here on Golo with satirical blogs coming from both sides of the political aisle. The blog a couple of spots down about McCain and the starving street people got me wondering about when does satire go alittle too far. Don’t get me wrong, I am not in an uproar and I have seen worse but it made me start thinking.
I think we have let go of the “PC” worries and the political arena has become a free-for-all including people on the same side letting the insults fly. Perfect example would be the comments Jessie Jackson made about Obama. What do you guys think? Are there still areas which are off-limits to discuss or does anything go from now on?

This piece has been misinterpreted to be a slam against McCain's POW status and somehow a slam against homeless people. It was neither. It's pure farce! It was inspired by a combination of a McCain POW political cartoon along with his famous temper. Surprising, really, to see so much indignation over it.
