charges dropped in fatal helicopter crash
Published Jul. 21, 2008Prosecutors say they didn't have enough evidence to pursue the case against pilot Ben Barrick without the testimony of a federal investigator.
This story disgusts me.
I don't talk much about myself here... not my non-GOLO self, anyway. I think I just wanted to say that this story makes me feel very sad on a personal level.
:(
What is wrong with people?
I guess I am not posting this for some sort of debate, but more or less posting it because I wanted to say that Ted was a very good man. Not perfect. Nobody is. But a decent, caring man... one who would do just about anything to help out a neighbor.
He was my stepfather, for a time, and I was so happy in the years that I knew him.
It pains me, thinking that Ben Barrick has been paid so much money by the county, yet he lied to people, was deceptive, and now they're just abandoning the case against him. He apparently has also been up on charges for stalking and making threats (armed threats). I'm a pretty tolerant person. It isn't about a witch hunt, it's just about personal responsibility.
There should be more of that in this world, I think.
Here's the link to the story (sorry about that Steve, I'm really aggravated by this, I reckon): http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3244187/

Based on other activities he's involved in, I'd say he has a bit of cash lying around. This guy is a true con artist that protects himself from either end - see the article here"

Our biggest problem is a District Attorney that doesn't like to do his job (ie: work in any form). He recently let a guy involved in one of the biggest Meth factories in the state walk with just serving 22 weekends (that's 44 days) in jail.

I believe in karma, actually. I figure what goes around comes around. It still makes me sad, though, that the county would just drop the case and let this guy walk. I feel sure that if he was say, driving a car that he'd sworn was safe and turned out to be completely unsuitable for driving, he'd at least have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
It's so odd.

I do think it is a rock, and I would doubt much ever comes of it for his wife. I have never met her. He married her years after he and my mother divorced.

I figure the county wants to forget about the whole thing. Try to keep themselves from having to spend any more money trying to fix the mess that they should never have allowed to happen in the first place.
It's disgusting, truly disgusting.
