It was a very tiring weekend, but we have almost all the dry-wall installed in the ceilings upstairs. Not bad since we only had 2 adults, 3 kids on Saturday and 3 adults working on Sunday. That dry wall lift is worth it's weight in GOLD!!!
As soon as we finish the ceilings, the insulation company can finish. They'll be blowing in the insulation for over the ceilings. We'll then begin the walls. In the meantime, we can start the downstairs.
I cannot believe how much it changes the appearance of the house inside. It's beginning to look like something to live in again. Though I have to admit, it makes it feel smaller, especially since the ceiling height upstairs is much shorter b/c of the age of the house. Should be easier to heat and cool, though!
I have learned something about myself while working this weekend. When I was younger, taking those end of grade tests and such, I always thought I did pretty well with the spacial components of those tests. But trying to measure ceilings, with all the cut-outs, and then transpose those measures onto the dry wall BACKWARDS took way too much effort for me. Give me a wall where I can look, measure and make my cuts flat and I'm great. But to look up at the ceiling and then have to make my cuts in reverse b/c that sheet has to be flipped. .... My brain feels like mush now. Be that as it may, I still managed pretty well, I just had to really concentrate. Though I'm looking forward to finishing overhead and beginning walls. MUCH easier and less thought processing.
We have two parts of our kitchen cabinets installed and the material purchased for the additions. We'll be sanding those faces down and re-painting. We'll re-use the hardware and find matching for the additions (we hope). Originally we planned an island, but I don't think we'll have room for that, so we opted for the L-shape. That should give plenty of room.

On the family front, my husband's uncle is doing well. Latest news was that they should be moving him to a regular room and out of ICU. That's wonderful news. He has a head-ache, but that's to be expected. There seems to be some short-term memory loss also, but I think that's also to be expected and hopefully that will remedy itself as he heals. The family are all so thankful and hopeful that the worst is behind. They are all such a strong family - physically, emotionally and spiritually. I am blessed to have married into their family and become a part of it. When so many people complain about their in-laws, I truly count my blessings b/c mine simply can't be beat!!!

With the heat of the day and everything else that's been happening, I decided to give myself a day here. I needed a day to re-group, get some things done here and just avoid stress and too much exertion. My mom has invited us over for supper, so I'll have the benefit of a home-cooked meal that I don't have to cook! And my mom is an EXCELLENT cook, so I'm very much looking forward to that! I don't know what she's cooking, but I have no doubt that it will hit the spot!!!
Hope everyone has a great day and can stay out of the heat today and tomorrow. We'll be back on the house Wednesday (if not tomorrow), working on those kitchen cabinets. We have a commercial portable air-conditioning unit, so we can plastic off areas and cool it enough to work. We're keeping that on the bottom floor, however, b/c it's too heavy to move up and down the stairs.

The hardwoods in this house were installed by my husband's grandfather and they are in excellent shape - including (we hope) in the living room that flooded b/c of the framers (argh!). Otherwise, the entire house is hardwood except the new additions and rooms w/sinks/water sources.
