life hates me

Published Jul. 21, 2008

Saturday night I took a friend to visit some friends out in country, misjudged the driveway, and pulled into the ditch. Came back less then 10 hours later to access situation and see what I needed to do; Sheriff's Dept. had shown up while I was gone and had it towed. I find the towing place, beg them to let me come pick it up Sunday as I needed it for work. They charged me $205 for towing and "weekend" pickup. I get around the corner and through the gate to get in it, and they had busted the tie rod and front grill when they pulled it out. Can't drive it, and they hadn't even told me this before I paid. Now I'm trying to get it fixed and have no money. I live 23 miles from work and work from 6 am to 2:30. I got a ride today, but not sure how I'm gonna get through the rest of the week.

Blondton - nasty turn of luck for you. SOrry. And you don't have to justify yourself to anyone here.

I always put car rental on my insurance, just in case, cause until recently I'd have been in your situation if that happened to my car. There are some risks I have to cover, and not having a car is one of them. I do suggest that when you talk to your insurance company about your claim that you ask about it.

No-one goes through life alone. Ask someone to help you. People are more generous and understanding than you can imagine. Maybe not $, but someone may be able to loan you a extra car or carpool with you for a while.

Good luck. Wish there were a way I could help - other than motherly advice! {{{ Hug }}} to you darlin'. It'll work out. :)

As for insurance, I have liability only that doesn't include car rental (car is paid off) In regards to not having a savings, I did just start having $20 per paycheck put away in a share acccount as that's all I can afford. But it's not going to help me right now. A garage just looked at the car over lunch and stated the axle was broken, the strut and the brake hose and it will be $450-500 dollars to fix it.

I did not leave anything in the window because a)I'm stupid and b) it was in the middle of Efland off a country road and since the people in the house knew I was coming back and it was in the ditch on their property (and not in the road) I didn't think to mark it.

To answer some of the questions...no, I was NOT drinking. At the time this happened, it was late and my daughter was watching my friend's baby. I had no money, and the people there siad they could pull it out if someone got a chain. So someone gave us a ride home and I said I would come figure it out in the morning. The car was NOT blocking any road or driveway, and went in at about 2 miles per hour as I didn't see it. So there was no damage done to the car. I don't know who called the Sheriff's office; I didn't even know the people my friend was visiting, but they knew I was returning the next morning. In order to pay for the tow fees, I had to take out a salary advance with my bank. I live check to check (even though someone said this is stupid before) and the absent parent of my daughter has not paid child support in 2 years - he owes $12 thousand dollars. Before anyone asks about this, he moved to two different states and child support can't seem to find him.

That happens a lot out in the country - especially with unmarked driveways at night. So sorry that it happened to you.

I have marked my driveway with reflectors and solar lights - so you could come visit me and not miss the driveway - lol.

Hope that you get it all worked out soon. If I were closer to Hillsborough, would come and get you and take you to work but I'm not.

I was wondering why you didn't call the tow company yourself? How did you get back home if your car was in the ditch? I have had my son's cars towed several times and it is usually about $40 buck (went up from $25 when the gas went so high). Most of that $205 was probably storage fee. Also, why not call the Sheriff's Office yourself when you hit the ditch? I would have unless I had been drinking or something.

As I gaze into my Crystal Ball I see a man with a tie rod in his hand . . .

OUCH stop stop, help help OUCH OUCH . . . .

As I gaze into my Crystal Ball I see that you have had a tough life and it will continue to be tough. On a high not I see you living a long tough life.

So sorry this happened, it really does sound like something that would happen to me!

I'm with lady blue...

did they actually admit messing up your car, or doyou assume THEY did it? Could you have possibly done the damage when you hit the ditch?

You have my sympathy. It's no good being without a ride. Good luck.

Are you sure you didn't mess up the tie rod when you wnet into the ditch. I bent one like that once...........
