Durham, N.C. — Lawmakers passed a bill on Thursday to allow Durham voters to add a one-percent sales tax on prepared food.
Last week, the House passed the bill allowing the referendum. The Senate passed the bill on Thursday. The referendum will be placed on the Durham County ballot in November.
V O T E NO
So, Durham is going to join Raleigh and Fayetteville in taxing prepared food.
Something is wrong with taxing food or water, and yes, water is taxed in the form of ice, which it wasn't a decade ago.
Once the drought bill is up and cooking, won't be long before the government will want taxes on water to pay for the meters that 'could' be put on community and even private wells.
Baby steps to less and less independence and freedom.
Once, in my life, I could live on my land, hand dig a ground water well, use an outhouse, and not be on ther grid, but no more, and I could break a twig, tie a line to it, fashion a hook, dig a worm and fish in the creek, but no more. Now I have to have a license<tax>.
You need I believe 20 acres to put one out house in the center of it, and you need a permit to build it, and you probably would have to have a port-a-potty there while you built it.
Yet, every city block has hundreds of pounds of dogs using the surface of yards and right of way for a toilet every day, all year.
Maybe someone will organize a boycott of Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville "prepared food sales" and see if some attention is brought to the subject.
What is the tax on playing a round of golf?
What is the tax on working out in a gym?,
or going to the museum, or on parking at the stadium
that these monies pay for?
There is a tax on the food a homeless person buys with the money given to him on the corner.
