I spent some time on the WCPSS website today and came across this:
Mission:
The Wake County Public School System will educate each student to be a responsible and productive citizen who can effectively manage future challenges.
Now, based on some of the comments and topics/issues discussed in the blogs over the last few days: (parental apathy, kids with bad manners who are not disciplined at home, lack of support, parents who believe kids can do no wrong, etc...) is this an attainable goal?
Teachers: Is this mission something you think about daily?
Share your thoughts.

should read "will attempt to educate"
Not every child wishes to be educated to be a responsible and productive citizen who can effectively manage future challenges and not every parent has this goal for their child...at least this has been my experience as a PTA officer, involved parent, parent of a child who has experienced school violence, and a child care provider who keeps the children of a number of teachers

That sounds more like a parent's responsibility.
You cannot expect the government to pick up the slack of a parent's obligations!
