house: oh my aching back!!!

For those who may be interested, let me be the first to extend a hearty GOOD JOB to those who do dry wall.  This has been the biggest challenge yet, BUT I'm happy to report that it's coming along very well.

We spent the weekend hanging dry wall in the kitchen and bonus room.  I sat back, watching and learning.  So yesterday, I jumped in and began working on the linen closet, another small closet and the walk-in closet for my daughter's bedroom.  I think I did pretty good.  I learned about the bevelled edge (never knew that before) and butt joints.  I also learned that tape and mud can correct a LOT of glitches - not that I had many.

I will say it was fun learning and I'm glad to have another skill that I'm not afraid to tackle under my belt.  But the bottoms of my feet today are killing me.  I'm SO sore.

We brought our kitchen cabinets out of the storage building.  Our friend will begin working on those today.  YAY!!!!  Things are really beginning to take shape.  I may have to take some time to watch what he does with the cabinets.  I certainly don't have plans to get into cabinet-making, but I'm kind of enjoying the new-found ability to pick up a tape measure and measure something, pull out the power tools and just build.  That is what my husband said was the biggest change since we began this project - that I'm not afraid to jump right in there and try.

Anyway, that's what's been happening on this side.  More learning, I'm exhausted and I ache like I've never ached before.  But things are beginning to take shape inside finally.

That is fantastic! Good for you :)

I feel for ya, really. I know the agony of drywall. And if it is not done right, EVERYONE will know the agony of dry wall.

Congrats, after you're done we go celebrate with a beer.

Oh girl, I feel for you. I hate drywalling and after doing it twice I hope I never have to again. Take a HOT shower and some advil. What you have so far looks great, so smile through that ache cause you are doing an awesome job!

Bless your heart. You just chill today and soak those poor feet. You've already taken on a bigger challenge in your life before the house was done and that is the determination to survive your accident years ago...... The house is a bonus for you.

glad to hear everything is coming along!...i know you can't wait to move in! :-)

Wow - that's great that you're learning new things along the way... and I'm sure it feels soooooo rewarding to see how much you are accomplishing!!! Hope you have a chance to take it easy and rest a bit. Take Care.

I haven't done drywall, but have done TILE...

I hung and did the mudding for drywall in a house I built. I vowed to never do it again. It is worth paying someone. They get it done a lot faster.

I hung every piece of drywall in my house and did a lot of the taping. It's a job for sure! I think everyone should have to work in consturction at one time or another to appreciate the value of a hard day's work..........

Just wait until you are entirely finished. When our house was built, we did most of the work. I have pictures of the day that they put the outside walls up. Looking back, that was the most amazing moment for me!

I also have a picture of my son sitting on his little John Deere tractor watching his dad dig the basement. It is the most awesome picture. What memories! We have been in our house now for almost nine years.
