 So, I'm reading the story about the Halifax deputy who shot himself in the hand, after chasing a suspect on a scooter, who then fled into a cotton field, grappling with the deputy, flinging the deputy's own flashlight at him. Trying to picture the deputy shooting his hand while attempting to deflect the flashlight with the other hand...

 

Just can't see it. All is see is Opie and Andy, whistlin' on their way to the fishin' hole, while Barney Fife is left in charge of the Mayberry Jail...

 

 

No offense meant to any LEO, but come on, this is funny...

My favorite is when the Wake Forest cop had stopped to let a female under arrest get out to use the restroom. The officer apparently left the car in drive and when the suspect ran and the car rolled the paper stated that "the officer wasn't sure which to chase..." lol... he saved the vehicle!

I wouldn't equate this story with the death of Trooper Blanton. I most certainly did not intend that. This is more of a jab at the criminal, attempting to escape on a scooter, rolling around in a cotton field. That strikes me as funny. I mean, cotton bushes(?) aren't exactly soft, nor do they provide alot of "cover" for the guy... I'll change the title to reflect that.

I thought the exact same thing at first, and started to make a joke about it. But then I thought, what if this had turned out different, you know like the trooper in the mountains a couple of weeks ago. The criminal took off running and then decided to try and fight the deputy, I'm glad that it turned out as good as it did. The deputy just had a reflex reaction that anyone would've had if something was thrown at us.

The deputy chased and caught his man, and went back home safe to his family, which is every LEO's goal. Sounds like a good days work too me!

Yes, I am glad he wasn't harmed, as well. It's funny, tho. Can't you just see the guy ditchin' his ride, trying to hide in the cotton field, throwing the Maglite at the deputy? If it wasn't so sad, it would be comical. I can picture Dave Chappelle doing a skit with this one...
