southern league all-star game
Published Jul. 15, 2008Last night while most baseball fans were watching the Home Run Derby, we were at the Southern League All-Star game at Five County Stadium. We stood in line to get autographs from the Northern Team for an hour and they picked up and left right as we got to the front. I asked #9 Chris Coghlan to stop and sign a shirt for my son. He was very gracious and did so. The game was sort of a blow out the Northern Team winning 6-1, but the highlight of the game was when Chris Coghlan (of the Mudcats), hit a three run homer! The only guy that stopped for me. After the game ended we got signatures from many of the Southern Teams lineup. I was a little angry that I was wearing my Dodgers shirt and every one of the Dodgers AA Team, The Suns, walked right into the clubhouse. THE BUMS. We got home late and it is going to be a long day for my son, but it was well worth it.

The home run derby was excellent. Josh made a fan out of me. I hope he continues to do well and keep straight. But the absolute highlight for me was watching his pitching coach from youth. I kept thinking what a great experience it was for Mr. Counsil. And he really earned a lot of respect from the 'pros' with his pitching to Josh! Great duo!
