camp anaconda

Published Jul. 14, 2008

Hubby had to see a medic at drill this weekend to have a tick removed. He asked the Medic how he would get his prescription for his Restless Leg Syndrome filled during their deployment (which will be to Camp Anaconda in Baghdad). Turns out his medication (Requip) is fairly new and the medic felt it would not be available. He suggestion getting it filled right before leaving, then having me ship it to him. WTF. He has a written prescription for a medical reason, and he will not have access to his meds directly while deployed? It is not a huge deal, but you would think we could provide our soldiers with needed prescription meds. What a load of CARP..

Cragsdale, opinion, based on no fact. If that's the way you want to go through life, then have at it.

To Pooh, I do hope he can get what he needs to get through the next 12 months. Seems there are some good offers of advice in this thread about who to speak to and who to check withor how to get him what he needs.

Best of luck. Won't be reviewing this thread again.

sounds like you two are super sensitive and ned to take your meds. I dont' need to offer supportive facts to my PERSONAL Opinion. If you disagree fine, offer some substantive facts as to why you think I should change my opinion, but don't sit there Oh' Holier than Thou and lambast me because I think it's a load of hogwash that has been formulated by a bunch of greedy doctors and pharmacuticle companies.

As for sleep aids, I don't recall my post saying people didn't need a pill to get to sleep, I said ADD, RLS and the such are dreamt up phantasms and that's my OPINION. you don't like it, fine, I don't really care what you think.

Cragsdale, where is your data to support your assertions that "folks didn't have any issues getting to sleep, or otherwise being reasonable responsible people."?

Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. Sleep aids have been around for a long time.

This is not right.Thought we where sopoe to be helping our military with medical problems when needed.Praying they will change this rule.

OMG!!!

Cragsdale - "RLS and ADD and all those other malcontent letters to me is just an excuse for Drug companies and doctors to make a living. 20+ years ago before you started seeing all of this, folks didn't have any issues getting to sleep, or otherwise being reasonable responsible people."

Nonsense! Many of my family members suffered with nocturia/insomnia for generations. It led them into deep depressions for which they only received the opinion "Cheer Up."

Those were the dark ages, my friend, and I am heartily grateful that I have meds to help me through both of those things now.

So unless the shoes are on your feet, think carefully before sharing cause the truth is - YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW ENOUGH AND I PRAY YOU NEVER DO!

God bless.

Rev. RB

When I worked in the pharmacy when I was in there were special circumstances that we ordered meds that weren't formulary in military, and gave them 6 months of supply, from Kuwait, the doctor in change of the unit would email back to the states and request these meds that are not in the operational formulary and get the meds to them.

Because the VA buys meds in huge quantities at hugely discounted prices, they often do not have the latest meds available because the drug manufacturers will not sell it to them at the discount needed - BUT they usually have an alternative available that will work.

Have your hubby check on that.

God bless.

Rev. RB

yes, he does drink caffeine. I will have to suggest he try that. Low iron is also a factor, and his worst times came right after he had done double blood cell donations. He had to cut that out.
