One of the most common question I get, especially from parents, is what is the motivation for the adults to try and have sex with children by using the internet. Typically offenders are classified in two groups, incidental and preferential.
Incident offenders are described as not necessarily having a sexual preference for children, but just a sexual desire and a lack of concern for how that is satisfied.
Preferential offenders are sexual attracted to minors and usually have a certain age range they are attracted to. I have seen preferential offenders that have a wide age range (8 -14 yo's) and some that are very specific (3- 4 yo's). I consider these offenders to be the more serious threat to children because they seek out and groom underage victims.
As to why they actually crave the sexual activities with minors, I don't have an answer to that, but they do. The question I ask people is, "How long would it take me to convince you it is acceptable to have sex with an 8 year old?" To which the typical response is, "You could talk forever and I wouldn't think it is ok." To which I respond, "That is how long it would take to convince them it is not acceptable."
Remember that 1 in 5 children will receive an online solicitation.

Sad to say but - they don't have it...that you know of. You'd be amazed at what kids can hide from their parents online.
