really stepping in it

Published Jul. 9, 2008

I just went to the website for Run to Vote. It sounds like a fantastic experience for these young people however, it got me to thinking. I probably am overthinking this, I may be wrong but here goes anyway. Please, please don't "blackball" me if you disagree...If people need to be coerced, reminded, prompted to register to vote, is it really a good idea for them to be voting. I mean if they aren't on the ball enough to get registered, they probably don't know diddly about the issues except that maybe they want "change". Is is really in the country's best interest to have these unmotivated underachievers picking the leader of the free world.

Not to pick nits, but Opps should be Oops.

No need to apologize Evil One...I totally understand your concerns and questions. I just wanted you to know from someone that is closely related to a Team Member that they certainly did not go into this blindly...it is an amazing experience for them all!!! I said we never got any offers like this while attending school...they are paving the way for more schools hopefully to get involved and have such a learning experience. This has never been done before. I teased Stephanie when she is a Grandma and she has created History she will be saying...listen you young whipper snappers when I was your age I ran 48 States *LOL* She said first off I would never use whipper snappers Mom *LOL*

First, my sincere apologies, I in no way intended to insult the youth or anyone involved in this endeavor although I can understand how this sounded. My point was that in the past such drives to register people such as "Rock the vote" and "Vote or Die" promoted by MTV, et al seemed to be target the largely uninformed. Again I offer my sincere apology.

Opps should have been...

over 300 on their Banner just today in Helena, Montana...they beat out California :)

Oh and they are not getting all people to register...if you look at the voting log they are getting people to sign a banner to promise to vote as well...people that normally would vote anyway. It is just their fun way to say YEAH we got this many to sign our Banner from this State...they try to beat out each State with each stop. It is a goal...and people think it is fun when they sign that banner they run 1/4 mile. Stephanie giggled tonight because they had over 300 signatures on their Banner.

Anyway hope that helps clear things up a bit for you

wow...seriously?

...meeting and was so touched by this Team that he had to jump in to help as well.

Just wanted you to know...they are not out there blindly...just doing what they feel they can do for our Country and make NC Proud!!! Something positive!!! They are just 15 and 16 years old and can not vote...

Feel free to contact me and I will let you know anything about these amazing inspiring Teens and Teachers who have given themselves for the summer

Yes Sue is right *smiles*

Evil One...being the Mother of one of the Team Members I can truly say they are having a wonderful rewarding time out there meeting people. Not only were they taught what they were doing but many hours of research and work went into this project...they started in September mapping, researching, collecting all information on all, mapping the best route, Parents attended meeting to learn what was what and how things were going to work the what if's and more...it was not like Hey we are hitting the road and going to talk people into voting. Mr Williams and Mrs Hineline talked over a year about this among themselves. They are also learning History that makes the US what it is, Civics, meeting many people, etc. They are talking. And let me tell you that they know 100% of what they are talking about...even my own Daughter asked me why I am registered the way I am and I explained. I am very proud of this Team as many here are. One GOLOer joined me in a Parent

You wear your screen name proudly.

i agree with sue.
