If you check our Traffic section, you'll see that the DOT's traffic cameras are kaput.
I checked them yesterday as Vice President Cheney's motorcade rolled eastward on Interstate 40 from RDU, but all of the cameras were in black. Long after the vice president left, our afternoon crew still couldn't access any of the cameras.
This morning, I came in to do my first check of our 120 traffic cameras, and all of the DOT cameras in the Triangle were still dead! I called DOT, and they tell me they are switching over to a new system, the cameras are dead and no one knows when they'll live again.
It's tough this morning! We're relying on sensor data to give us information about delays. We also need your help! If you run into an unusual delay or accident, call our On-Time Traffic Tip Line at 1-877-PILE-UPS.
I'll let you know when the DOT's cameras are back up!
