This is a photo I made last Friday night at our campsite at Kerr Lake. As you can clearly see, the lightning stroke was very close -- we all felt the EMP (electro magnetic pulse) of it as it happened -- about 1/8th of a mile away.

In my grannies house before the grounding of wires she said they always had to sit on the couch during a storm and saw why one night when with a strong flash of lightning fire flew across the room from one outlet to the other.

We were at Lake Gaston when that storm came through. I was inside with the kids. Most of the other adults were on the porch. One blast of lightening and I saw what looking like ball lightening INSIDE. There was a snap, sizzle and it tasted like I had been chewing on aluminum foil. Everyone came inside and they claimed to have seen the lightening strike the ground just outside. I still say something was struck inside.

That was entirely TOO close for my comfort.
