The Angus Barn is consistently pretty good, especially when you sit in the bar. Much less formal and a lot more fun.

Well, I like Champa at Brier Creek... for sushi AND for Thai.
Ginza in Cary is good for sushi, and for hibachi.
I like Maggianos over at South Point for Italian. (And wow.. Casa Carbone! I haven't been there in years).
Steak... that's more difficult to choose. Ruth's Chris in Cary or Angus Barn.
Even though they're chain restaurants, I do like Bonefish Grill, Carrabbas and Rockfish Grill.
Oh... Azitra! My favorite Indian place!

Duck & Dumpling on Moore Square...a wonderful Asian bistro...the chef will walk out of the kitchen and check on customers;
Capital City Chophouse...also expensive but worth it!!!;
Irregardless Cafe on Morgan St., Raleigh...menu changes, chef is owner and shops the Farmers Market;
J Betsky's for German...small dining room, awesome beer selection...in Seaboard area of Raleigh.
Griffin's in Youngsville for awesome southern breakfast. I love that place, though don't get there as often as I'd like...
I love the Triangle for food!!! I know there are more places out there...I just can't think of any more....

If on a budget, Carraba's is very consistent. Their filet is quite flavorful.
P.F Chang's if your in the mood for Chinese. Not exactly in-expensive but very good.

I go to The Peddler..been in Oak Park Shopping center since 1972 :) Great Filet and PRIME RIB and wonderful chicken breast too!! Bartender is pretty great with a dirty martini as well. (I have heard not as pricy as Angus barn, either but haven't independently verified.)
Don't want steak? Casa Carbone is just around the corner. NUM!

New place (to me) Peak City Grill in downtoan Apex-somewhat unique entree and appetizer and desert chocies-but so far - excellent flavors. Unfortunately, have to put up with piano player - small space - makes it hard to hear each other. But the food is worth it. Small so make reservations on the weekend.
TK Tripp's in Ridgewood in Raleigh - oldie but goodie - always consistently good and reasonable. Their Greens n Grille salad is tops.
Agree with many - Angus Barn, Ruth's Chris (in Cary), and Sullivan's - and surprisingly - Bonefish Grill in Cary - have the best filet mignon steaks anywhere.
Angus Barn has so many other choices, which are all delicious = consisetnely the overall best restaurant locally. (Which is why it is ALWAYS crowded, despite the prices!)

Chain places don't really do much for me. Too bland, even Ruth's Chris.
