some help, please

Hey, friends. I need your help.
I've just been assigned to the environmental beat here in the newsroom, and I'm trying to collect story ideas. The management has given me wide latitude in what kinds of stories I can do.
We see a lot of environmental reporting, and I don't want to repackage and rehash all the things you've already heard about. I would like to hear about everyday things people are doing to reduce their consumption. Do they save money, or do they pay a premium for "living green"? I'm looking for businesses that are researching energy efficiency, maybe developing some cool, unusual technology that we might see one day.

They proclaim that CFL's will save the world ignoring the ENVIRONMENTAL impact of the CFL's on public health and in the landfills. The EPA had to give CFL's a waiver to be put into a dump. That speaks volumes!
Last - has anyone asked a Boy Scout about the environment? You want a story - email me and I can take you to a place where environmentalists are abundant.

I'd like to know if Raleigh really saved any money by ending backyeard pickup - other than just firing the garbage collectors.
