a loving memorial tribute to jodie the dog
Published Jul. 8, 2008A tribute to Jodie the dog… Jodie the dog blessed our lives for over seven years. We said our final goodbyes to her on Saturday. She ended her short battle with lymphoma a little quicker than we thought.Jodie was always full of energy and eager to please at all times. She always wanted us to be happy- sadness or anger was not tolerated by her at all. Watching a sporting event was difficult- if you jeered because your team fumbled, she was there to console you and try her best to peep you up! She loved being outside, as long as it wasn’t too hot. She’d lay in the sun on the deck for hours…. She had 2 doggie beds, but HER bed was the twin bed in the guest room. She slept on it and would lay on it to watch the neighborhood through the window. Her final day, she couldn’t get up on the bed, so she laid beside, looking out the window. She loved to play and rough house. She had a basket full of toys and she always had one in her mouth when she greeted you at the door. Her final day was difficult. We knew it was the end, so we took her to the park one last time. Halfway through the trail, she stopped at the bank of the lake and laid down. Hindsight, we think she wanted us to leave her there…. The rest of the day is still a blur. At 4:45pm, we got her in the car for one last car ride. Within 30 minutes, with the vet’s assistance, she was arriving at Rainbow Bridge. She went peacefully and we are ever so grateful. Jodie was a blessing to us. We will always treasure her memories and her love.
We created a loving memory page for her. Please feel free to visit: http://www.geocities.com/m_kunkle/Jodie.html?1215300901862
And thank you to all who have kept us in your thoughts and prayers. It has been a tough month. We appreciate your kindness and love.

Pet Loss
The grief associated with the loss of a pet, regardless of whether the loss was expected, sudden or constrained, is often not understood by those around us. People whom have never given their heart to an animal cannot understand the pain of losing him or her. However, the pain felt can be as strong as that of losing a family member or cherished friend.
A Pet's Loss
In your heart, you probably realize that in time the sadness you are feeling will fade. For now, just know that it's all right to hurt... I hurt with you. It's all right to cry... I share your tears. It is only through crying that you learn what it's really like to laugh... only after feeling sadness can you really experience joy. So allow yourself to feel what comes natural... but know that someday life will be better... it will be easier to smile.
