Our prayers are with the family. He was a great man, he served his country well. We will miss him dearly. North Carolina is greatful to of had Mr. Helms serve this state. Rest in Peace. The Allan Family of Clayton,NC

Mr. Helms was a man who stood for what he believed in regardless of the direction of the political winds. That's more than can be said for most politicians these days. May he rest in peace.

We need more politicians like Mr. Helms. You always knew where he stood on any matter, he did not waiver his opinion to appeal to every single person. You can always appreciate a man with strong morals and convictions like him. God Bless his family and may they rest easy knowing they love such a honorable man.

My special prayers are with Margaret and the Helms family. Peace.

I was 16 when Jessie Helms was first elected to the Senate. He was the source of many high spirited debates between my father and I. While I have not agreed with many of Senator Helms views, as I have grown and seen other politicians I have come to have the highest respect for Senator Helms. He was honest and forthright. He always did what he said he would do. He never adjusted his views durning election season. He always did what he thought was best for North Carolina. While I may not have agreed with his views, he was a shinning example of what a politician should be. If evey politician had his level of integrity America would be a far stronger, safer place.

I am sorry for his family's loss.

Enjoy your rest Mr. Helms. We appreciate the hard work you did for everyone while here.

May God bless the Helms family through there loss of a great man.He will never be forgotten,He brought alot of smiles to alot of people. If only we had more like Mr.Helms we would be a better place. God Bless, Carillo family

I am ever grateful for Mr Helms' staunch opposition to abortion and his refusal to cave in to radical special interest groups who oppose common moral values.

May God receive him into His Kingdom and bring every consolation to his family and friends.

They should simply put Senator Helms' picture in the dictionary to describe the meaning of the word "integrity".

Too bad we don't have someone like him running for president this November. God blees his family.

Thank you Mr. Helms for your years of service to our state and country. May you find rest in that house not made with hands eternal in the heaves.

I grew up listening to Jesse Helms on Dateline. I voted for his election to the Senate. Whereas I did not always agree with his opinion, I admired his dedication and tenacity to fight for his beliefs. He was a great man who served us well regardless of the popularity factor. May his legacy live on. I like to think of him and Ronald Regan reliving political strategies and memories of their heyday. May he rest in peace.

Senator Helms - you represented the citizens of North Carolina well. Thank you for your service. Thank you so much for your help to my family in 1985 when our Congressmen's offices would not even return a call (David Price) - back when I was a wide-eyed little Democrat. You and your staff's assistance to me then taught me a great deal about integrity, compassion & sincerity. You demonstrated them all.

To Senator Helms' family - I am sorry for your loss, our loss.

may you forever rest in peace, your work is done here on this old earth. May God take you in his arms and shelter you eternally and may God bless your entire family...

Jesse Helms stood fast in the face of constant and unrelenting political correctness. My father worked with Jesse in the 1960s at WRAL and grew to admire his strength and character and I continue that belief. We are a greater country because of his efforts. We can pray someone with the same degree of devotion to the ideals of this county will emerge in the future. Count me among the North Carolinians who are proud to share a home state with Mr. Helms.

TO THE FAMILY MAY GOD UNDERGERD YOU WITH HIS LOVE AND TO KNOW THAT HE WILL BE MISSED IN HIS SPECIAL SERVICE. THE CONDOLESE AND PRAYERS.

We are saddened by the loss to North Carolina of former Senator Jesse Helms. Senator Helms served the people of North Carolina with grace and dignity and we will always remember with fondness our association with Senator Helms. Jesse said that he wanted to be remembered by the people of our state as "doing the best he could". Well Jesse, you did so much more than just the best you could. You gave us 30 years of honesty, integrity and commitment to the people of this state all the while never seeking to elevate yourself beyond being a servant of the people. That is the way it should be. Thank you for your service and for your commitment to the values this state holds dear. May God bless your dear wife, Dot and your loving family at this time.

The Regelbrugge Family

As a young fellow, I remember watching Jesse do the Editorials on WRAL many years ago. Jesse Helms held true to his moral convictions and NEVER compromised his values. I respect that a hell of a lot. My wife (who is a RN) took care of Jesse during a stay at WakeMed in Raleigh a few years back and she said he was a true southern gentlemen that was polite to everyone he encountered during his stay there. I never met Jesse, but I have always liked and respected him. I think he did North Carolina proud. Rest in Peace, Jesse, and God Bless Your Family.

We have lost a real Statesman with the passing of Senator Helm.My prays are with his family at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Helms family during this time. He will be truly missed.

I admired Jesse Helms so much. He was a man of honesty, integrity and respect. If Jesse said he was going to do something, you could carry it to the bank. He never wavered in what he believed in. He stood his ground when placed on the spot. I didn't know him personally, but believe that he would have made anyone feel like he had known them his whole life. I believe this man was a man of God. I think he tried to make decisions according to the scripture. I wish all Senators were like him. I have raised my children to measure someone who holds public office up to Jesse Helms. Unfortunately there aren't any out there that can compare to Jesse. The people of the State of North Carolina can be proud to say that they had a Senator such as Jesse Helms. He would have made an outstanding President. To his wife and family I wish to express my sympathy.

Senator Helms was indeed a man who stood by his convictions, regardless of the fact that they were backward and harmed many citizens in this state and country. Like a page out of classic period pieces fictionalizing the Old South, Helms was a true Southern gentleman, always unfailingly polite, even as he disparaged individuals and whole classes of people. He was a brilliant politician, knowing which buttons to push to foment distrust of so-called outsiders, hatred of the other and fear of progressive ideas. His constituent services were second to none, as he knew that while he was a representative of all the people of this great country, he needed but a majority of North Carolina voters, comprised of his core constituency (with whom Helms epitomized their beliefs, values and aspirations), to prevail to continue his reign of error. Godspeed to your final resting place, Senator. May you and Rev. Falwell and others of your persuasion enjoy eternal reflection.

Mr. Helms was the kind of man heroes are made of. He was a man of strong conviction, not a compromising bone in his body. Thank God for a man who will stand up for what's right. My father respected him greatly as do I. May they reminisce together in heaven. My thought and prayers are with the family. I know how hard it is to lose such an important part of your lives. God Bless!

Jesse Helms was a great American and true patriot. For those people that are making degrading remarks this is a prime example of being very inconsiderant, disrespectful and tastless. They obviously never heard the expression, "If you can not say anything good about someone, then don't say anything."

Our condolences are extended to the Helms family. God bless Jesse. He was a great man. Sincerely, Nancy Lester

As a young black person growing up in Durham during the mid and late 60's I recall my parents and other adults discussing Mr. Helm's comments on WRAL. Some of those comments were downright hateful and bigoted. Later in life, I remember him having similar beliefs, opinions and actions. The worst part of his actions was that he legitimized bigotry and prejudice. I sincerely hope in his final days he let go of these ignorant racist, imperialist and sexist beliefs. I hope comfort to his family and pray for his soul, because someone that voice hate

I was privileged to work for Senator Helms in his Washington office while President Reagan was in office. He was a great man who stood on principle and didn't change his positions because of the latest polls or because someone criticized him. There seem to be few left that even understand that kind of integrity. I pray that God will comfort Mrs. Helms and his other family members.
