reduced speed

Published Jul. 6, 2008

I was watching news 14 tonight and caught part of a story. From the way i understand it they are in the process of enforcing the speed cap that was put in place a while ago. This will drop all speed limits to 55 mph. From what i herd it is supposed to help conserve gas with prices being so high. I really don't think that it would be done to help with gas but to help the state generate more revenue. Because you all know as well as i do that even at 65- 70 mph there's a large portion of people on the road who have a hard time staying at those speeds.

So the question is help conserve gas or another way for the state of North Carolina to get more people into court and get that bit of extra money

"hahaha... i call it more of a "start a revolution" sign."

Yeah, nothing like a revolution that starts by restricting freedom, comrade.

seapunky, have you ever seen what some of us "single drivers" are hauling in the back of our suv's?

Last time I had mine out, it had 100 pounds of peanuts in it (for the birds), a stop at PetsMart to get food for the pets, groceries from the grocery store and last but not least, a stop at the local Wild Birds Unlimited to pick up mealworms for the bluebirds and others that are raising babies around the area.

So while it may appear that we are just driving around by ourselves, some of us do make good use of the hauling capacity in the ones we have. I also make sure I combine all of my errands and do them all at one time. I don't just make a quick run anywhere, I always make sure I have more than one place I "need" to go before I ever leave home.

I agree with your blog even though 55 mph is a safer speed even though people are not going to do this and we have to keep up with the flow to keep a wreck from happenning or long back ups and being inpatient. As for stock markets no more for me lost big and i do mean big time when it went bankrupt.

hahaha... i call it more of a "start a revolution" sign.

there's ben a little talk about this, but this country won't go back to 55...people in this country can barely wait 5 minutes in a drive-thru for their lunch, they think you shoudl be able to win a war in a week, make thousands in the stock market in a week. The idea of SAVING is foreign...can't wait till they get home to take a phone call...can't take the time to actually cook a meal...I just don't see it happening with today's culture - our time is too precious...

Aeapunky, you have a democrat sign flashing on yer forehead!!!! LoL! (just kidding of course, I don't have anything against dems.)

i almost forgot... more taxes for SUV's. it burns my grits that there are single people driving all over in suv's, wasting alllll of that gas for just one person. but that's america, for you...

it also depends on the car... "the perfect speed" is going to be different for each one. as far as safety, i still vote for my own tougher driving test, as well as an idiot penalty for doing things like talking on the phone, applying makeup, turning around to smack the kids in the back seat, etc. that ought to make things a little safer. and to conserve gas, i also vote for my drive-thru tax to encourage people to get off their rumps and walk instead of driving a block to get their big macs.

dryice...thanks for this blog...

found this...hey, if it will save me 30 cents a gallon, and lower the price of gas as well, and save lives, I'm willing and will support it.

I can tell you from pulling my big trailer that wind resistance really starts big time at 45mph...bit if everyone else is doing 75, I can't go 45. Well, that's hard anyway.
