Helms was a despicable, racist homophobe. What respect does he deserve?

At least in the era of Jesse Helms they knew how to show respect for the dead person's family. And not to speak ill of the dead.

Looks like respect is dying along with everything else of that era.

i personally did not like the man and from what i am reading on other sites, neither did alot of other people. regardless, my prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends for their loss.

When I think of Jesse Helms, I think of George Wallace. The only difference is, George Wallace truly reconciled with the human race And with the creator before his life ended on this earth. Jesse Helms remained the same racist bigot that he has always been. When I was a kid, I used to watch his editorial only because I always watched the local and nation news with my dad. Walter Conkrite was my man. I did have to sit through the local news and Jesse would always seem to have a problem pronouncing the word Negro. It seemed to me that there is a distinct difference between the words “Negro” and “Nigras". Now as an adult, I wonder why the TV station never made him perfect his enunciation. It is funny how everyone now has selective amnesia now. No one wants to say bad things about the dead but if it is true then so be it. Jesse died proudly and is highly respected for being the racist bigot that he was. But remember bigots can be kind and gentleman like. Ask yourself why there has n
