photography ideas needed

Published Jul. 2, 2008

Hey guys, I'm trying to get into photography more as a hobby.  I would like to start photographing interesting historical places around the state.  I was hoping you all could suggest some unique places to start my hobby.  Im most interested in historical buildings/places, unique architecture, abadoned buildings, etc.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I like OldRebel's advice. I can't count the times I have come across an image that was *begging* to be photographed, but I didn't have my camera. Reminds me of a time out in the country on the way to Virginia....we saw a dilapidated sign advertising "Lawnmower Repair, Metal Detectors and Income Tax Preparation" all on the same sign! Whoever they were, they were versatile! ;-)

"he rock at Rocky Mount has just been refurbished."

That's funny...

Go take pictures of the aging tobacco barns and family farms before they are all gone, on your way to buildings. Add RR to your interests. We have them.

excellent suggestions so far...keep em coming :)

The rock at Rocky Mount has just been refurbished.

Duke Chapel is gorgeous, and so are Sarah B. Duke Gardens. Old Yates Mill Pond is really interesting, and more interesting architecture can be found in downtown Raleigh in the art deco style government buildings. The rotunda at the capital would be great for your eye, as would the glass ceiling at the Museum of Natural Sciences ... and the interior walls at Marbles Kids Museum.

You can go to a Nascar race and take pics of Ryan Newman. He's historical? Well if nothing else he's a washed up has been? LOL I couldn't help myself! ;)

I totally agree with oakwood cemetary...especially after dark..ESPECIALLY on Halloween, when they do the Ghost Tours...

Carry your camera with you all the time. Look at things from different perspectives, from different directions than they're normally seen. Try and see those places in very early morning light, or just as the sun is going down. Totally different effect than during the rest of the day when the sun is high. Keep the sun at your back...usually.

oakwood cemetery BUT BECAREFUL ITS NOT IN THE BEST AREA
