n.c. state gives mary easley 88 percent raise
Published Jul. 2, 2008Easley, an executive-in-residence and senior lecturer at N.C. State for three years, is "uniquely qualified for her role," officials said.
Yea, right! Where have I heard that before?
I'm sure others are blogging on this but all I can say is I'm sure the excuse will be that they needed to pay her that to keep her from being lured away by the private sector. I heard that often in my time as a state employee.
I was a state employee for five years doing a job I loved that I was very good at but still I had to endure years of 0% raises and then a whopping $500 bonus. At the same time we were being told there was no money for raises I recall a state legislator being slammed for giving a 30% raise to his young attractive female assistant. His excuse; he had to do it to keep excellent people. I was told over and over again how valuable I was and how they were going to make it right. The raise I finally got was so pathetic I decided to leave. I eventually was hired away by the private sector and have since had a fine career. I’m sure current state employee can commiserate.
I guess it will all even out when the windfall from the lottery and all those trips to Europe start filling the state coffers with tourist dollars and industry based tax revenues. Who knows, maybe Lady Easley (we need to refer to her properly like they do in Europe!) at 170K a year is a bargain. And then I woke up…

Dude, I'll graduate with a masters degree in accounting. I won't need anybody's help getting a job, least of all some governor I don't even know.
You graduated from where with what?
